Dealing with Moving Blues

After signing the one-bedroom apartment contract for a year’s lease, and finalizing the arrangements with the owner two weeks ago, my siblings and I are now bracing ourselves for the big move. The agreed date was October 15, but the owner said I could already get the keys as early as October 8 so we could start cleaning the house and transfer furniture, closets, etc.

All four of us siblings are very excited about this move. I mean, we have long wanted to get out of our old, dilapidated boarding house. It was just that, before, we didn’t have the resources to do so.

I’ll surely miss our old place, though. Our boarding house, no matter how small it is, has been my home for seven years now. It may have a very small room, but it made up for that with its wide dirty kitchen, big comfort room and enough open space for drying clothes. (We needed a bigger and better room, hence, the move.) It’s near a convenience store and a few sari-sari stores. It’s also walking distance from a popular church, a supermarket, a drug store and several fast food restaurants.

Good thing the apartment we’re renting is just two blocks away from our boarding house. They’re in the same Manila district, only different barangays. So I guess we won’t be missing out on a lot, after all.

This early, the expenses for the move are already piling up in my head. I guess I’ll have to borrow some money from my small savings to cover the ‘moving day’ costs. The money I saved up for this move has already been used up for the pre-requisite two months deposit and one month advance payments. I never thought it’d be that costly. I’m just consoled by the idea that with our new place, we can now have our friends over and my parents’ visits accommodated anytime.

I have also prepared a to-do list to inject some order and organization into our moving tasks. The fact that I’m spending the coming weekend and the start of next week in Boracay means I’ll have to relegate some important moving tasks to my three siblings (a.k.a. cleaning the boarding house and sorting out our things for easy packing). I’m still thinking if I’ll also let them do the buying of several essential moving items such as light bulbs, extension sockets, wires, nails and the likes.

I like it that we don’t have much stuff to transfer. It just means our move won’t be as stressful as those of others. No need to hire the services of some moving company. Not much moving blues to deal with. Oh well, I really hope that our move gets as organized and hassle-free as it can be. πŸ™‚
