GoDaddy Renewal Codes and Why a Distant Domain Club Membership is Not for Me

I almost forgot that it’s that time of the year again to renew my domains. For people out there with self-hosted blogs, you’d know what I meant by that. The privilege of a .com has a price, one that we pay normally on a yearly basis. For my three domains (I used to have more!), I’ve been with GoDaddy (www.godaddy.com) since 2008 because it’s so easy to transact with them and they’re very good at reminding customers about the health of their accounts.

I usually renew my domains a month before expiration. I also use promo codes or discount codes scattered online when renewing my domains so I could save money. I just type in the code during checkout right before paying for my order and that’s it. If before, I could renew my domains at $8.29 each, sometimes even less, now it’s impossible to do that. Recently, GoDaddy has stopped giving out renewal codes and offered discount domain club memberships instead. Why, oh why?

From Baking to Biking

Last Tuesday, which was a special non-working day for Manila-based workers like me, I engaged in two activities that allowed me to think, move, sweat, be patient and have fun all at the same time. I’m talking about baking and biking. Wow, those two rhyme beautifully, huh!

In the morning, together with my ever-dependable husband, I replenished my baking supplies over at Makati Supermart – Alabang where I found out prices are somehow lower than at SM Supermarkets. Don’t just take my word for it, try shopping there some time and see for yourself.

Baking with Edel: Choco Banana Muffins

This is probably the easiest baking recipe I’ve found online. I said “easiest” because I was able to memorize the very few ingredients and simple baking instructions while making ’em muffins. First time to happen to me so I was quite amazed. You, too, can bake this in your home kitchen!

Anyway, I had the time to bake because it was holiday for us Manila-based workers last Tuesday, it being Manila Day. I got the recipe from AllRecipes.com which is a very useful site for everything about cooking and baking as it has a massive collection of recipes from around the world. Here it is:

Never Afraid to Cook

I’ve always loved to cook. I’m not a chef, though. I’m just your ordinary working wife who cooks for her husband during weekends. I say only during weekends because we get free meals on weekdays courtesy of my MIL. (But that’s another story for a different time.) The only time I don’t get to cook for my husband is when I’m too lazy to whip up anything edible and just resort to eating out or delivery (my treat, of course!).

I learned how to cook from my mom who’s very good in the kitchen. Actually, it was she who taught me not to be afraid when cooking. I remember she once told me when a dish you cook turns out bad, you just charge it to experience. You can always cook the same dish again with good (or better) results, anyway. So far, majority of the dishes I’ve cooked have been well-received. And I’m proud of myself for it.

Weekend Pleasures

Whenever I talk about weekends on this blog, I always make it a point to share a story. Like what we did on that particular weekend, the realizations I pondered on, the stuff that made me happy, etc, etc. This post is a bit different as I’m sharing pictures of things (or people) that made my weekend extra special and fun. Let me get started now…

I finally found the time to continue reading this book about shopping. While it focuses mainly on the sellers’ perspective, I still picked up a lot on what motivates people to shop and what gravitates us to the goods sold in stores. Somehow, it made me feel good about the shopping fast I’m doing. Haha.

Emergency Fund: What, Why, and Where

Emergency fund is money set aside for use in cases when you suddenly have to spend on something very important or urgent. It could be anything from job loss, sickness, and unforeseen expense. Actually, you can recognize it easily when you experience it.

Emergency fund, or funds for that matter, should be accessible any time the need for it arises. Personally, I had been aware of the concept of emergency fund during my high school years and I got to build up my own only when I got my first job. I didn’t take it too seriously then. As long as I had some money in my savings account, I thought I was okay.
