Review: Keratin Smoothing and Balayage Color Treatments at Edwin Lisa Salon, Makati

It was my friend Monette from LCDTM and my SIL Albie who introduced me to this cozy little salon in Makati . They go there annually to have their hair rebonded and they get very good results each time. Add to that the fact that the prices at this salon are reasonable. So, one time, I had my hair rebonded there and even blogged about my experience here.

After five years, I visited the salon again last Saturday to accompany my sister Jodie and my mom there. Jodie had her hair cut, colored and rebonded while my mom had her hair cut and colored only.

As for me, I had my underarms waxed and I also unintentionally ended up availing of these two services for my hair: Keratin Smoothing Treatment and Balayage Color Treatment.

It was Edwin Lisa Labalan (the owner) himself who worked on my hair. He’s such a cool guy and very eloquent when it comes to the latest hair trends and techniques. He would every now and then be assisted by his life partner Mhel when he’s needed by other customers, which was okay with me because Mhel was very nice, too.

Keratin Smoothing Treatment (P6,000 for medium-length hair) is a revitalizing and rejuvenating treatment for the hair that reduces frizz and curl. It infuses a special blend of keratin deep into the hair cuticles. The result is hair that’s softer, shinier, straighter, more manageable, and easy to style.

The Balayage Color Treatment (P2,400 per color on medium-length hair), on the other hand, is just like your usual color treatment except that they use the “Balayage” technique. After a little googling, here’s what I found out about it (as lifted from http://beauty.about.com/od/haircolo1/a/baliage.htm):

Balayage refers to the process of sweeping color onto hair using a paddle. Balayage gives the colorist more freedom to place color where she/he chooses, unlike foils which can be much more precise. It’s great for coloring grays because the stylist can cover the few gray strands rather than having to color the entire head.

Edwin used two colors on my hair: light golden brown as base and very light golden brown for accents. For the finishing touches, he also cut my hair (more like trim!) and texturized the edges to give my hair a lighter feel. The result was fabulous. I really, really liked it!

Ang galing nga, gumanda ang hair ko at naging frizz-free. Sana lang ma-maintain ko ‘to dahil tamad nga ako magsuklay at gumamit ng kung anu-ano sa buhok, diba? Haha.

The keratin smoothing + bayalage color took almost three hours to finish. I didn’t mind the long wait at all. I cannot explain everything that my hair underwent but I remember there were shampooing, ironing and blow-drying involved.

I noticed that the salon’s interiors have changed. I would find out later that they had a total makeover. The place is now cozier and more spacious than before. The WIFI signal (they have free WIFI!) is also stronger than the last time I’ve been there.

I liked that the staff there were warm and friendly without being overly talkative. (I could still tinker with my phone while on the salon chair when I felt like it.) They are also quite knowledgeable about the services they offer and even giving suggestions as to what’s better for your hair. They even have a client database so they could easily retrieve our profiles and look at the services we availed before. Talk about personalized service!

    1. Salamat, sis! Naku, andami color na pagpipilian, ask mo din suggestion ng stylist kasi mas maalam sila sa atin kung ano bagay sa face shape at complexion natin. 🙂

    1. Thank you, sis! Every girl needs some pampering at the salon every now and then, esp. a busy working mom like you. Go! 🙂

  1. It was nice that you had a great experience with this salon but unfortunately, it was opposite in my case. I availed their digiperm last April 9 and the curls didn’t even last for a day after I washed it. I am used to getting my hair permed on a regular basis but this is the first time it happened to me. I went to their salon to complain about it; they suggested to redo it but I was worried that my hair will get more damaged telling them “baka masunog”. Our conversation was still okay except when this receptionist told me, “hindi naman masusunog ang hair mo mam kc hindi naman apoy ang gagamitin dyan”, it tipped me off. I think it was really rude to make a customer feel dumb about her complaint and I think its not the best way to handle an unhappy customer. I suggest you better go to Envy Me salon in Robinsons or Aaron Salon in Ortigas because their perm is better than this salon.

    1. Sorry to hear about your experience. I also believe the receptionist showed rudeness when she threw out that remark. I hope the owner learns about this so he could do something about your case. He’s really down-to-earth and easy to deal with. 🙂

  2. Me too, I had a bad experience just a few days ago. I had my digiperm at their JP Rizal branch in Makati using the Metrodeal voucher. It was a total of almost 6hrs of procedure and it cost me 4k (incl. root color, treatment, half rebond) but the result was frustrating. I was told that I’m okay to leave even if my hair was still dripping wet and was applied with 10-12pumps of curling lotion. When my hair finally dried, it was so stiff and heavy. My hair looked so messy and frizzy. I don’t know what to do with my hair now, I even messaged the fb page of EdwinLisa but they did not reply. I had my digiperm at a Korean Salon last year but the result was beautiful and it even cost me less (ensogo voucher 1.8k only).
