Weekend Story: Death in the Family

It was one of those days that I dreaded to come. Receiving a sad news on a supposedly happy weekend was terrible. The hubby’s grandmother is gone. She died in her sleep. She was 73. In a way, she was still lucky because her death was a quick one. If I could have it my way, I wanna die under the same circumstance.

Rest in peace, Lola Betty!

The hubby’s family is mourning right now. Lola Betty’s remains lie in state at their family home in Bohol. My in-laws are flying there tomorrow. We are following them on Saturday as the hubby still needs to attend to some school requirements.

The last time I saw Lola Betty was during our wedding. She was a simple, old lady who enjoyed cleaning the house and gardening. Whenever we would go to Bohol for a vacation, we would stay at their family home and Lola Betty would attend to all our needs and wants. While she’s not the hubby’s biological grandmother (she was the third wife of his grandfather who’s already in heaven), she treated him like a real grandson. Because of her endearing qualities, the hubby and his family easily got along with her and loved her sincerely.

The hubby and I drove to our Bacoor home on Saturday afternoon to check on our house and get some clothes. We drove back to Manila the very next day. We fetched my SIL Albie from Robinsons Ermita and accompanied her to Divisoria to buy white shirts. (People are requested to wear white clothes at the funeral service slated on Monday, March 16th.) It was a quick trip that we ended through a satisfying dinner at Sincerity Cafe and Restaurant in Lucky Chinatown Mall. We got home at past 7:00 p.m.

Lola Betty, I know you’re in a better place now. When it’s time for you to enter heaven, please say hi to our son Pippo for us. You will be sorely missed. ‘Till we meet again! 🙂

May you choose happiness always,

    1. Thanks, TPS. Yep, medyo bata pa nga kumpara sa ibang lolo at lola. My lolo died at 86 years old, Edwin’s lolo at 94. Pero ako, gusto ko until 75 lang. Pwede na ‘ko dun. Takot ako magka-Alzheimers. Haha. 🙂
