Weekend Story: New Foodie Discoveries + Cooking Experiments

Last weekend started early and felt longer than usual. The hubby and I had dinner with our Cebu-based friends on Friday night in Alabang and we went home in Bacoor right after.

I had two new foodie discoveries in Alabang: Kulinarya Experience or KXP (where our group had dinner) and Café Seol Hwa (where we had coffee and desserts). Both are located at Commerce Center. They don’t just serve good food, but they also have fast service.

stairway to food heaven according to the hubby!

The Beef Stroganoff Pasta of KXP was delish. Creamy and flavorful sauce with tender, juicy beef slices and al dente spaghetti. It can’t get any better than that. Too bad I wasn’t able to take a photo before I polished it off. Bleh.

Allow me to rave about the yummy desserts of Café Seol Hwa.We tried four kinds, two bingsu (it’s like the Korean version of our Pinoy halo-halo) and two cakes (which were actually mousse disguising as cakes). The two bingsu were a delight to eat. The two cakes, on the other hand, had a nice, silky texture and were not too sweet. We loved everything!

Friday temptations. Haaaaay…yummy lahat! #instapic #instafood #koreandesserts #fridate #cafeseolhwa #igersmanila #igdaily

We spent the entire Saturday at home. On Sunday, we heard the 7:30AM mass at our neighborhood church. Then, we drove home to eat breakfast. By 9:30AM, we left for SM Bacoor to do some errands. We had lunch there, too, before we went back home.   We had a sort of Chinese dinner when I cooked homemade pork siomai and chopsuey. It was my first time to whip up these two dishes and I was quite excited with the results. Ayun, pumasa naman sa panlasa ni mister! Haha. (We actually brought the leftovers to Manila for our loved ones to taste and enjoy.) I love cooking experiments that turn out okay in the end!

siomai

Some of the siomai I fried, while the others I steamed. The hubby liked his siomai deep-fried with a dip of soy sauce, calamansi juice, and chili-garlic sauce. I made my own chili-garlic sauce by toasting a lot of minced garlic and 6 pcs. of siling labuyo in oil. I was so proud of myself because my chili-garlic sauce was a success and tasted just like the one from Siomai House, albeit hotter and spicier, which was a good thing!

chopsuey

After dinner, we did some brisk walking around the village. Did I mention I also worked out on Saturday night? Because I want to lose weight and be healthy, that’s all.

We went back to Manila early morning of yesterday, filled with new hopes for a more fruitful week.

How did your weekend go, friends? 🙂

May you choose happiness always,
