Crocheting with Edel: Zippered Crochet Pouch

This small old rose crochet pouch was borne out of my desire to use the leftover yarn from the chunky crochet sweater I made a few weeks back. One special thing about this pouch is the knitted “V” look which was inspired by the stitches used in this lovely cowl at All About Ami blog. Actually, if you’re gonna take a look at its interior/back side, the pattern made by the connecting knots is quite nice as well. Next time, I’ll make another pouch and use it as the exterior/front side. It’s going to be dainty!

Here are the materials I used for this project:

leftover Red Heart Soft acrylic yarn in rose blush (about 1/3 skein)
3.75mm (US 5) hook
scissors
scrap fabric (for the lining)
white zipper
needle
black sewing thread

This pouch makes use of half double crochet (hdc) on the third loop all throughout. You have to use the third loop to produce the knitted “V” effect or else, it won’t show in your work.

start

Making this pouch was a breeze. It only took me several hours. (I usually crochet during weeknights and weekends only.) My foundation chain was 40. I made a row of single crochets in the front loop and another row of single crochets in the back loop to produce a round. Then I started making many rows of half double crochets until I reached the height I wanted.

For the lining, this zippered lining tutorial was a godsend! I followed the steps and tips mentioned there and did my best. But I just hand-sewed everything.

You see, I still don’t know how to use a sewing machine (even a portable one I’ve never gotten around to learning yet!) so that will do for now and perhaps, for my future projects as well.

And then I’m done! Look…

Not bad for a first-timer, methinks. I know I still need to work on my measurements because the fitting of the lining inside remains far from perfect. But it now functions as a real pouch and that’s what matters most, right? I originally gave the pouch to Mame but my sister Jodie got it from her upon seeing it so it’s Jodie’s now. I just promised Mame I’ll make her a new one soon.

May you choose happiness always,

I never heard of those words when we had crochet projects in elementary!

    1. Salamat!

Eto yung online shop nya: http://www.gantsilyo.com. 🙂

  2. Ang cute ng purse! Not really bad for a first-timer, ah! Galing!

Love your blog’s new look, by the way! 😀

  3. That was so pretty and so dainty! Crocheting is one of those skills that should be preserved. I only know the basics learned from high school home ec and I can only make a square, I admire you for being able to make your own pouch! 🙂

I have a portable sewing machine, and it’s easy to use. I just watch YouTube videos and I only do simple things like sew a straight line, but it makes repairing things easier and allows me to make simple things like dust covers for my printers from old bedsheets. Beats having to pay someone to custom make one.

    1. Thank you, TBQ! Crocheting can be very fun and fulfilling. That’s great! I also wanna learn how to sew! 🙂
