Weekend Story: Work, Work, Work…

I had a work weekend while the hubby spent his doing the things he loves most — biking, getting online, doing the laundry, eating, and sleeping. I have no regrets, though, because work is work. It’s something you do because once upon a time, you signed your contract and committed yourself to it in exchange for money and career advancement. If your job happens to be something you love doing, then consider yourself lucky (I know I am!).

So, the hubby and I weren’t able to go home in Bacoor. I went to work on both days (Saturday and Sunday) as we had a big event we needed to be very prepared for. The event happened on Sunday morning at 10AM which was actually a gathering of the highest ranking officials in the country, members of the diplomatic corps, and people from the civil society to celebrate the 118th Philippine Independence Day. The event turned out to be a success.

Weekend Story: Fun with the Gang (a.k.a. Family)

Last weekend was all about the gang, also known as my family. I always have fun with them around, especially Mame who is effortlessly funny. Cliché as it sounds but I look forward to spending time with my family, no matter how short that time is. Our family is far from perfect, but we work things out and the love is always there. I’m also glad that the hubby gets along with them, sometimes even better than I do. Haha.

More Time with Family

After I got married, I have to admit I had less time to spend with my family. With family, I mean my parents and my three siblings. When I was still single, I used to be a homebody who spent most of my time with them. When the hubby came into my life, I had to share some of my time with him also.

It’s a good thing I have a husband who understands my need to check on my family, especially my parents, from time to time. It’s a good thing also that we live near them, well, technically. My in-laws’ place in Manila (where we stay at least twice or thrice a week) and my parents’ place are just a few steps away from each other.

Close to Being Pennyless

At least that’s what I felt earlier today after my trip to Cavite. Tagging the boyfriend along with me, I visited SM Rosario to buy my mom a new refrigerator. Though I paid thru credit card, I couldn’t help but feel close to being pennyless because my next payday is still one week from now and yet I have already spent my entire personal allowance for next week. Expenses just piled up from nowhere and before I knew it, 90% of my money was gone.

Now I’m very tempted to get cash advances from whoever is willing to lend me money. Just kidding. It’s a good thing I have other income sources aside from my day job. Actually, I can’t seem to be contented. I always try to find new sources of income and think of new ways to make money. There was even one time I thought of putting up a small business. But I know I can’t do that yet. I need to save up more money and get an MBA first. Yeah, just to be sure my business would grow and flourish.

Another Great Work Week

Work in the office has been little this week but I made sure to make the most of it. Productivity wise, I can say I have accomplished several things. Primarily of them is our office’s annual accomplishment report. No, it was not some tedious work that needed undivided attention. It has to be, but then, it helped that I made little preparations during the early part of this year. It also helped that my officemates were there to give me the data I needed to include in the report. Actually, I just collated the data, organized the information and gave some brief analysis. That’s the reason why I have finished it ahead of time.

Another thing that made the previous work week great is that we were finally allowed to file for monetization of our leave credits. It’s just 10 days but it still is money. And I need money at this point. My mom has been bugging me to buy her this cooling device for her Cavite home. This daughter is known for her obedience and heart when it comes to her family (ehem) and so, I might give in to her wish when my money arrives.

Living the Life of a Superwoman

Time really flies. I just realized I’ve been serving as the breadwinner in our six-member family for eight years now. It all started in 2003 when I began earning money from a part-time job. I was still a student then, two years away from graduation. Thinking about it now, I can’t help but be overwhelmed by the herculean task I placed in my shoulders then. But I did it, man. And I continue to do it to this day. You’re a superwoman, I remember that was the exact phrase a friend of mine once said to me. Now I believe there’s some truth to it.

From sending my siblings to college and handling the family’s finances (how I wished with the help of an executive dashboard) to juggling two jobs and running a household, I’ve done and accomplished so much more as a breadwinner. I’m glad I had the determination and discipline to do anything and everything without succumbing to all kinds of temptation (e.g. drug dependency, unwanted pregnancy, early marriage, etc.). I’m happy I have managed to preserve my sanity and keep myself free these life-altering circumstances all these years.
