Latest Food Trips

If you were following this blog, you would have known I love making lists. One of them is the list of restaurants I’d like to try. This list is already long and yet, I’ve only visited a couple of them. What I do is I cross out the restaurant once I’ve tried it. Recently, I’ve crossed out two: Crazy Katsu and Holdak.

Crazy Katsu is located at the popular foodie destination called Maginahawa St. (Teacher’s Village in UP Diliman) while Holdak is housed at Mezza Residences in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Both are fast casual restaurants that serve good food at very affordable prices.

Some Thoughts on Dining Out

While dining out is fun, it can get expensive. As much as I wanted to skip dining out to save money, I can’t. There’s a lot of new and old restaurants to try, which means there’s also a lot of good food to taste and a lot of good company to have a fun time with.

While entertaining at home is also a good option, many people prefer dining out today when meeting with friends or spending some quality time with their loved ones. It’s must be because it’s more convenient and requires less effort than cooking food and setting up the dining table and cleaning up the mess after. Personally, I do enjoy entertaining at home despite all the hassles, but only during special occasions and when I’m in the mood for laboring in the kitchen (which is seldom).

Missing Binondo and Chinese Food!

Two Fridays ago, I had a fantastic Chinese lunch courtesy of our former boss (and one of my wedding godparents, too). She had some Chinese food sent over to our office all the way from a restaurant at the Makati Golf and Country Club. Ang sushal lang. Haha.

our Chinese lunch, thanks again Ms. BAA!

While enjoying the delicious Chinese food, I suddenly missed Binondo. I remembered the food trips hubby and I used to have there in the past. We’ve tried and enjoyed the food at Wai Ying Fastfood, Masuki, Estero, Dong Bei Dumpling, Sincerity Cafe, and Cafe Mezzanine. I planned for us to try more hole-in-the-wall eateries and dainty restaurants that serve authentic Chinese dishes but my previous pregnancy (and my delicate condition for that matter) prevented us from doing so.

Dining at Blackbeard’s Seafood Island, SM Manila

Do you enjoy eating with a group? Do you like the idea of eating on a table filled with food for everyone to enjoy at the same time? How about eating with your bare hands, sans spoon and fork, for a more familiar dining experience? You can experience all that and more at the newly-opened restaurant called Blackbeard’s Seafood Island in SM Manila.

I’ve experienced dining at their Alabang Town Center branch before and just recently, I attended the grand opening of their SM Manila branch (along with two other new restaurants) though I didn’t get to taste their popular “boodle feasts” because I was already too full by then. I was so excited to try their food again that I brought the hubby and my SIL there just the other night.

Food Trip Plans

If there’s one thing that’s a good conversation starter, it would be food. Don’t you just get amazed how people instantly create a connection simply by talking about the common food they like or the specific food they tasted somewhere? Food as a topic never ceases to draw attention, inspire, and even tickle our senses.

Do you eat to live or you live to eat? This is one question that gets to be asked to many people. I think I’m more of the latter. I enjoy eating food, discovering new dining places, trying out new dishes and exploring new cuisines. Sometimes I even research about a particular cuisine to better understand its characteristics, distinctive flavors and natural tastes.

My Affinity for Asian Cuisines

I just came from a dinner with friends at Crustasia located inside Powerplant Mall in Rockwell, Makati. It was a heavy dinner and I got too full after. Perhaps, it’s the reason why I’m still awake at this odd hour. Our host ordered a lot of food and we just couldn’t stop eating because everything tasted good. The restaurant, by the way, specializes in three Asian cuisines: Indonesian, Thai, and Chinese.

My affinity for Asian cuisines started fairly recently. I just found out one day that there are some Asian dishes that I enjoy eating, crave for regularly and wanna learn to cook at home. These dishes include Bibimbap, Katsudon, Pad Thai, Siomai, Chicken Curry, Dumplings, Tom Yum Soup, California Maki, Wanton Noodle Soup, Hainanese Chicken Rice, and Yang Chow Fried Rice, among others. What I love about Asian cuisines are its diversity, great tastes, familiar flavors, uniqueness, and innovativeness. It’s funny but whenever the fiancee and I would dine out, I’d always ask him to eat at an Asian-themed restaurant serving some or most of these food.
