Weekend Story: Islas Pinas + Virgin Lab Fest 14

Last weekend was highlighted by experiences that were a delight to the senses. On Saturday, the hubby and I checked out the newest food park in town — Islas Pinas at Double Dragon Plaza in Pasay City. Then we, along with my brother Dan, watched the Set D (composed of three independent plays) of the Virgin Lab Fest XIV held at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) before driving home in Bacoor. We would meet up with my in-laws to dine at Islas Pinas again on Sunday night before going back to Manila.

Weekend Story: Office Team Building at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan

Last weekend turned out to be a long one for me because our office held its strategic planning and workshop (read: team building) on June 25-26 which fell on a Monday and a Tuesday. The chosen venue was the breathtaking heritage resort called Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in the sleepy little town of Bagac, Bataan. So, after spending a rainy weekend in Bacoor with the hubby, I packed my bag for the team building and created happy memories with the people from work (we were a group of 15).

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar was a great place, an ideal respite from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. After settling in our beautiful villa called Casa Meycauyan, we did the fascinating heritage tour and just took in the sights and enjoyed the vintage vibe. While we could get used to slow living in a place filled with lovely old houses and gifted with a fantastic view of the West Philippine Sea, we had to go back to Manila and continue with our busy (yet most of the time fulfilling) lives as civil servants.

Weekend Story: First Time in Davao City + Father’s Day Weekend

My first trip to Mindanao happened last June 11th. It was kinda surreal for me. I was grateful for the opportunity of traveling for work. I was quite excited during the trip and to be honest, it felt more like a treat than a task to me. Anyway, I flew to Davao City along with our office director for a coordination meeting and ocular inspection and got back to Manila on the same day. I would be sent to Davao again, this time with our boss, on the 14th. Our office director and four other officemates would follow on the 15th and work there with me for our event on the evening of the 16th (Saturday). We all flew back to Manila on Sunday afternoon just in time to celebrate Father’s Day with our respective families. Our event at SMX Davao, which was in celebration of Eid’l Fitr, was a success. Our efforts have paid off and our boss was happy. It also helped big time that the people we worked with in Davao were efficient and simply awesome (hello, JD and Glenn!).

Weekend Story: Rainy Weekend in Bacoor

Because June has officially started, rains have become a regular thing in this side of the world. The hubby and I drove to Bacoor last Friday night and spent the weekend at home. We only went out to buy some groceries and after that, enjoyed the company of each other inside the four corners of our humble abode. My PILs joined us on Saturday and we all went back to Manila on Sunday night. It was quite relaxing and fun. The only downside of the situation was that the continuous drizzle made us eat more than we used to. Good thing we had enough food in the pantry and my MIL did all the cooking as usual. Love her talaga! Haha.

Weekend Story: Happy Fiesta, Peñaranda!

The hubby and I traveled to my hometown in Nueva Ecija last weekend. We were joined by Mame, my aunt Yolly, and my MIL. It was MIL’s first time to visit Peñaranda and do the fiesta thing with us. By fiesta thing, I meant hopping from one house to another to eat and socialize. I’m glad that our trip went smoothly and safely.

Catching up with relatives and friends is always fun. Doing it during the fiesta (read: Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi) is even more so because the atmosphere is festive and there’s lots of scrumptious food on the table. We sometimes even get to take home some food because our relatives and friends say so. (So sweet of them!) And because there’s too many houses to visit with so little time, it is inevitable that a friend makes “tampo” to Mame because she has too many friends in Peñaranda (even if it’s my father’s hometown, not hers) and she usually promises to visit them all. Haha.

Weekend Story: Quiet Time in Bacoor + Quick Trip to Batangas

Last weekend was quiet and quick. Haha. We spent as early as Friday night in Bacoor and dedicated much of our time watching Suits (our current fave TV series) on Netflix, eating, cuddling, and doing household chores. We went to the mall on Saturday afternoon to do some grocery shopping and pick up some summer-related stuff. On Sunday, we made a quick trip to Batangas to hear the 9:30AM mass at Lipa Cathedral in Lipa City before driving to the next town, Mataas na Kahoy, to attend the christening of my officemate’s second baby (the first one is my godchild!). From there, we went straight home in Manila and even got to do some malling at Robinsons Place Manila with my in-laws before calling it a day.
