This is the first time I’m following a diet plan and documenting about it. The name is General Motors Diet or simply GM Diet. (Try googling it and you’ll see a lot of sites talking about it, recommendations, reviews, tips and all.) Basically, it’s a 7-day diet plan originally designed for General Motors Corporation employees to stay in shape and has become quite popular over the years. I would find out later, though, that the GM claim isn’t true. It’s actually more of a modified version of the cabbage soup diet. But I digress.
I first found out about the GM Diet from a blog I visited yesterday. Now, what has made me decide to take on this diet challenge? I have several strong reasons:
1. The food required are all healthy and readily available.
2. The diet plan claims to achieve a weight loss ranging from 10 to 17 lbs, if complemented with exercise.
3. It’s also a sort of “detoxifying” diet.
4. I’ve decided to take my weight loss goal more seriously.
5. This is my first try to follow a diet plan. If it ends up a failure, I’ll just charge it to experience. Haha.
Today, January 22, 2013, is my Day 1 on the diet. Here’s what the GM Diet says about it:
Day One All fruits except bananas. Your first day will consist of all the fruits you want. It is strongly suggested that you consume lots of melons the first day. Especially watermelon and a loupe. If you limit your fruit consumption to melons, your chances of losing three lbs. on first day are very good.
Day 1 Weight: 139 lbs.
Despite the temptations of a chunky sandwich at home (lovingly prepared by my MIL) and the various delectable breakfast options in the office (brought by my generous officemates), I was able to control myself and eat up a big Fuji apple for breakfast. My lunch consisted of watermelon and mango slices. I had loupe melon cubes for afternoon snack. For dinner, I ate another batch of loupe melon cubes.
For the exercise part, I just did some stretching and walking. Sorry, but this girl lives a sedentary lifestyle so you really can’t expect a lot. Haha. As advised in the GM diet, I also abstained from alcohol and drank more than 10 glasses of water the entire day.
Breakdown of Actual Expenses:
1 big Fuji apple, P20
watermelon slices (c/o office)
1 medium-sized mango (c/o my FIL)
1 large loupe melon, P45
Total Expenses: P65
Let’s see how this diet will go tomorrow. Stay tuned! 🙂
