Weekend Story: Lots of Rest and Quiet Time

Weekends are full of surprises. This is especially true if it’s a long weekend. The hubby and I were already in Bacoor as early as Thursday night. Of course, we were excited over this 3-day break! Despite the continued heavy rains coupled with strong winds, the hubby and I were able to go out to do some errands, work on his thesis, and visit the wake of a friend’s mother.

On Thursday night, I made some ice cream using ripe avocados from my FIL’s own tree. It turned out to be so good for a dessert/snack that leaving some for our family in Manila was a hard thing to do. (Don’t worry, we ended up leaving some for them in the name of love.) Haha.

On Healthcare and Medical Emergencies

UPDATE: My Tita Miyang finally went home from the hospital last Saturday afternoon. Praise the Lord, the king of all healers! 🙂

Last Monday, I received a sad news from my cousin about her mom (my aunt and my father’s sister) who’s based in Biñan City, Laguna. She said they rushed her to the hospital because she suffered from heart attack and had a seizure. After doing some tests on her, the doctor advised to send her mom to the ICU immediately for more tests and observation. We visited her at Alabang Medical Center yesterday and she had already been transferred to a private room. It seemed that she was on her way to recovery. Thank you, Lord!

My Tita Miyang is 64 years old, has a senior citizen card but no PhilHealth membership (what we heard in the news isn’t fully implemented yet!). She doesn’t have health insurance/HMO card which leaves her family with no choice but to shoulder all her medical expenses. Imagine paying almost P20,000 per day for a stay in the ICU? That amount is already equivalent to a month’s salary of a public school teacher. My gosh, I don’t think I can afford that at this point should any of my parents get subjected to the same ordeal.

Disciplined Eating

Once again, I have started to get serious about my weight loss. I tried disciplined eating last weekend and it seemed to have worked. I lost a pound in two days. I plan to continue this and hope to see greater results this week.

What is disciplined eating? I define it as watching what I eat and adhering to a diet plan strictly. The process entails a lot of discipline and hence, the name. I dunno but I just woke up one day and told myself that I need to get back into shape. I want to go back to the body that I’m comfortable with.
