Weekend Story: #PippoDay 2015

It’s that time of the year again. Instead of feeling sad, we chose to feel happy. It may not be easy, but it can be done. Thanks to our family for serving as our strong support system. Remembering the third birth/death anniv of our angel son turned out to be memorable, and even fun.

Since it was a long weekend, the hubby and I made the most of our time, invidually and together. On Friday, I had a long lunch with my blogger friends at New Orleans BGC. We tried the resto’s new menu which left us so stuffed. Among the many dishes we had the opportunity to enjoy, my fave would be the Creole Shrimps, the Southern Fried Chicken Skin, and the Buffalo Chicken Wings.

Weekend Story: La Cocina Food Tasting + Bacoor Staycation + Yakimix with Family

Long weekends are supposed to be relished. Our calendar only has a handful of them and so normally, people make plans to spend them well. I guess the hubby and I are not one of those people. Sometimes we have a plan, other times we don’t. Last long weekend, we didn’t have any. We just went with the flow. Of course, it was a given to go to Bacoor for a staycation (which we always enjoy!).

On Friday, we woke up late in Manila. Ay, ako lang pala yun. Haha. Anyway, the rest of the day turned out to be fun. In the afternoon, at around 4PM, we got an invite from La Cocina de Tita Moning to a food tasting of their new offerings.

Weekend Story: Happy Birthday, Happy Fiesta and Happy Trip to Our Lady of Manaoag

How was your long weekend, friends? Mine was simple, fun and happy. I had a restful Saturday because while the hubby was attending his classes in graduate school, I was stuck at home alternating between sleeping, eating, and reading books. When he got home in the afternoon, I just fed him lunch and then he joined me in procrastinating. Haha.

We spent the long weekend in Manila because my PILs requested so. They wanted the hubby to celebrate his birthday at their place because his birthday coincided with the Feast Day of St. Michael and the Archangels. It doesn’t happen every year; it’s just this year that the feast day fell on October 5th (which is the hubby’s birthday). And since we would be visiting the Shrine of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Manaoag, Pangasinan together with friends by Monday, we thought it was a good idea to just stay in Manila.

Unexpected Long Weekend

It was an unexpected long weekend for us last weekend. May 1st was a holiday (it being Labor Day) and our work got suspended on May 2nd because our office suddenly decided to do some pest control and fumigation stuff much to our delight. Haha.

We went home in Bacoor on Wednesday night and left for Manila on Friday morning. I took advantage of that day and applied for a driver’s license at LTO-Tayuman. (Which reminds me, I have to blog about my driving journey for posterity’s sake!) The place was already packed with people when we got there at almost 7:30 a.m. (we really planned to go early to finish early).

Our 2nd Wedding Anniversary Celebration

It was a last-minute plan but I was so glad it pushed through. For our second wedding anniversary celebration, we had a staycation at Azumi Boutique Hotel in Alabang. It was a newly-opened hotel, well-managed and beautiful in every aspect. We just had an overnight stay there but we enjoyed every minute of it. We checked into the hotel on Sunday and left the place Monday noon.

If you’re also planning for a staycation, the hotel is highly recommended. I heard their rooms are discounted until April 2014.

Here are some photos we took of our simple celebration:

Birthday Weekend

The hubby and I celebrated my birthday last Saturday simply and quietly. I was expecting for a surprise from him but he didn’t have any. Haha. He failed me this time, but it’s no big deal. He just told me to get something for myself when we went to the mall on my exact birthday and paid for it. So, what did I buy? No, I didn’t get the military challenge coin online I saw last month that would have started my dream coin collection. Instead, I got two things: the dress and the pair of shoes I had been eyeing for weeks. Yes, I finally have them now. Good things really happen to those who wait.

If it was a red velvet cake for the hubby for his birthday, this time I made myself a no-bake blueberry cheesecake. I got the recipe from a friend’s blog and the cake turned out to be good, but not good enough for me. The crust broke when I sliced it (I overdid the sugar) and the cake itself wasn’t as smooth as I’d liked it to be. (Yes, I think I really need to get an electric mixer soon.) The taste was fantastic, though. The canned blueberry filling I bought from the supermarket wasn’t too sweet which I thought was a good thing as it balanced out the flavors of the cake.
