October 5 is World Teacher Day

Teaching is the noblest of all professions. I have high respect for teachers. The job they do is no easy work. They not only mold people’s minds, but also shape the nation’s future. Today we pay homage to our teachers (both young and old) who are partially responsible for what we have become now.

In the Philippines, teachers are aplenty. And they continue to grow in number through the years. Most of them may have stable jobs, but they don’t get paid well. It’s a sad reality that Pinoy teachers have come to accept.

In general, teaching in the Philippines is more of a selfless service than a job. The only consolation they get is when they see their students become productive members of society. It means they have done their job well. It means they have touched and made a difference in their lives.

My brother is a teacher and I’m glad he is one. I hope he gets to practice what he studied very soon.

Are you a teacher? Well then, I salute you. 🙂
