Spending Vs. Saving

Recently, I’ve been obsessed about saving. Instead of spending my entire weekly allowance, I’d make it a point to save each week. Like last week, for instance, I saved a total of P565. Funny but I felt very accomplished as I counted the money left in my wallet one by one. Haha.

Spending and saving are broad topics. They have always been a part of discussions on money management and personal finance in general. We spend mindfully and sometimes, mindlessly. We, however, tend to forget about saving.

Why is it that it’s easier to spend than to save?

Personally, I think it’s because we have “needs” and they are immediate in nature most of the time. We even get tempted to shop for luxuries every now and then. Savings, on the other hand, is a choice. We save to prepare for the rainy days, for the unknown. It is allotted for something that may or may not happen in the future.

This 2015, I declare that I will save more and spend less. I’ve told the hubby about this already and he seemed in agreement with me. I would like for us to focus on our financial goals. I would like for us to concentrate on growing our money.

In other news, we just paid our term insurance this morning! If you are planning to buy insurance, get a car or house loan, open a bank account, or invest your money on something, I chanced upon a financial comparison portal and you might want to check it out. It’s a Philippine-based website that streamlines the comparison and application of various financial products for free to help Filipinos make informed financial decisions. I even heard they are having a giveaway to their newsletter subscribers wherein one lucky subscriber can win an iPhone 6!

Care to share your thoughts on spending and saving? I’d love to hear what you think about them! 🙂

May you choose happiness always,

  1. Because of you din Edel kaya naisip ko din na dapat hindi palagi magastos. Pero naging magastos din ako itong mga nakaraan, feeling ko kasi kahit pa barya barya lang binibili ko napagastos din ako at wala natatabi halos.

  2. When I started saving, I used the 50-50 strategy. E.g., If I want something, I put the same amount in my savings account. So kung gusto ko ng lipstick na worth 1k. I will only buy it if I have 2k. 1k goes to the lipstick and 1k goes to savings. That way I’m sure that I’m saving at least 50% of my money.

  3. Yes, saving is great thing. Sa akin, once I get my paycheck, I make sure na dapat I have money that goes to savings. The rest na is for bills and groceries. Kung meroon akong gustong bilhin, pinag-iisipan ko muna kung need or want.

    1. I can’t agree more. Kaya naman kinakarir ko na ang pagse-save ngayon, before kasi hindi ko masyado sineseryoso. Hehe. 🙂
