Traveling on a Budget

When I officially assumed the role of wife in our marriage, travel planning was one of the tasks I assigned to myself, with the hubby’s consent, of course. Actually, I’m the one looking into every single thing that involves money in our household. Traveling requires a certain amount of money, and so I have always been the one allotting a budget for it. This set up has been working out just fine for us, so far.

Ever since our wedding in 2012, our travels have been confined within the country. We have not traveled abroad as a married couple yet. (When we were still bf-gf, we got to travel to Singapore and Malaysia together.) Of course, we have plans to see more foreign countries in the future. One of our dream destinations is Japan. We have some friends based there and they’re more than willing to accommodate us during our stay there. I even have a cousin who has been working and living there with her family since the early 2000s and she’s long been bugging me to come over. Right now, we’re still saving up money for it and we don’t have any concrete plans yet.

Weekend Story: Swimming in the Rain

Last weekend was a rainy weekend. There was no typhoon but the heavy rains that kept pouring on the ground felt like one. There was nothing more safe and convenient to do but to stay at home. We, however, was out early on Saturday to go swimming in Pansol for a cousin’s son’s birthday party. Family comes first, you know. Haha.

In fairness, nung nasa SLEX kami, wala masyadong ulan.

My First Leather Bag is a Fino!

I first heard about Fino from this post. I’m not sure if it’s the same year the post was published that I got to read it or the next. All I remember is that I developed an instant liking for the brand and its stylish and sturdy leather goods. With a consumer culture lusting primarily over foreign designer brands and patronizing just about anything imported, seeing local brands like Fino thrive is a breath of fresh air. It also affirms our capability to be at par with the best in the world. It even adds to the list of things that make me proud to be a Filipino.

I have always wanted to own a leather bag, something that’s long-lasting and worthy of my hard-earned money. I initially wanted a Cuyana tote (me and my bias for tote bags!) in caramel but decided against it after setting foot inside a Fino store and laying my eyes on the Davos bag, which is the very design synonymous to Fino. I knew right then and there it was the one I truly wanted. But I found it expensive at PHP8,000+ then. Plus, I didn’t have the money yet. When the time came that I already had the money for the bag, inflation made its price even higher at PHP13,000+.

Weekend Story: Bacoor Staycation + MIL’s Birthday Celebration

It’s funny how I always consider going home in Bacoor as a “staycation.” You cannot blame me, though, given our current living arrangement. After all, it’s just the the hubby and me there and our room is as cozy as we wanted it to be. Plus, it’s air-conditioned! (Our room at my PILs’ place isn’t.) Well, I guess such a little luxury makes a big difference especially in this tropical country of ours. The fact that we only get to enjoy it during weekends (and not if we miss going home for the weekend) make it sweeter. I highly doubt I’d appreciate having an air-con room as much as I do now if I get to enjoy the comfort of an air-con room every night. Oh, the beauty of rarity!

That’s why I’m glad last weekend was another Bacoor staycation. We arrived home on Friday night and left for Manila on Sunday afternoon for a family dinner at Sincerity Cafe & Restaurant (Lucky Chinatown Mall branch) to celebrate my MIL’s 68th birthday!

Weekend Story: Double Celebration at F Restaurant, F1 Hotel BGC

Last weekend was a blast. We had a double celebration in the family: Mame’s 62nd birthday and my PILs’ 45th wedding anniversary. From the initial plan to have a staycation at some hotel to the bright idea of a night swimming in Pansol, we ended up trooping to F1 Hotel on Saturday night for a dinner buffet. Ang hirap talaga pag magkakaiba ang schedule!

There’s not much review of the buffet offered by the F Restaurant (a.k.a. F All Day Dining) of F1 Hotel BGC online so I thought of sharing some of my insights here. Well, based from our experience, the buffet had a decent food selection for its discounted price. You know, just the right amount of well-prepared food to make you feel full and satisfied but way far from what Spiral by Sofitel or even Vikings and Buffet 101 offer.

Weekend Story: Home After a While

As early as Friday night, the hubby and I were already in our marital home in Bacoor to spend the weekend there. Instead of using our own car, we brought my FIL’s car so the hubby could have it cleaned thoroughly (he said it’s called auto detailing) by his suking car wash shop. (It took them two days to finish cleaning the car.) Given the (car) situation, we decided to just stay home and slow down.
