Weekend Story: House Guest, Red Velvet Cake, Thai Resto and Unexpected New Stuff

We had a house guest last weekend. It was my mareng Josh. We’ve been friends for a few years and share the distinction of being the godmother to the daughter of one of my bestfriends. It was actually that bestfriend of mine who introduced us to each other. Josh and I always chat on FB and one time while talking about home improvement projects, I decided to invite her for an overnight stay at our Bacoor home.

As expected from two talkative people, we did a lot of chatting. I’m really shy in person but once I get along with someone, I usually never run out of stories to tell. Haha. Aside from chatting (and laughing of course!), we ate a lot and took advantage of the hubby’s LTE pocket Wi-Fi. I was also in the mood to bake then so I made her a red velvet cake which we had for merienda.

Planning for Our Financial Future

I’m turning 31 years old in October. Still young, I guess, but not so young when it comes to investing. As they say, the earlier you invest, the better. I don’t regret it, though. I may have not invested early when it comes to assets of various kinds, but I have other “investments” in my life that are now bearing fruits.

You see, I used to be the breadwinner in our family. That was after my father lost his job in 1999. Actually, I fully became the breadwinner after landing my first job after college. I sent my three siblings to school and luckily for me, they were able to finish their studies one by one. They are my other “investments” that are now bearing fruits. And so today, we are working together to give our parents the good life that they deserve. But that’s another story for another time.

Weekend Story: Lotsa Time with Family and Friends

It’s not every weekend that I get to have plenty of time to spend with family and friends. Last weekend was that kind of weekend. I had lotsa time in my hands to meet with friends and spend quality time with the hubby and my family. My weekend turned out to be fun and filled with positive vibes. I loved it!

On Saturday, I met up with some of my blogger friends at Heaven and Eggs, Glorietta 4, Makati. It had been ages since I last saw them (though I always get updated on their latest endeavors through Facebook and Instagram!), primarily because I decided to “lie low” in attending blog events the past months due to heavy workload in the office. We had a delightful brunch of American and Filipino food while catching up on what has been happening in our lives.

Pros and Cons of Our Current Living Arrangement

The hubby and I are in a somewhat weird living arrangement at present. Well, technically, we started with it right after we got married in 2012. You might ask, how weird? Read on.

On weekdays, we stay in Manila at my in-laws’ place. On weekends, we stay in our marital home in Bacoor. What we do each week is we would leave Manila on Friday night and drive to Bacoor and go back to Manila on Monday morning. This had been the case until the hubby started attending graduate school last month. From then onwards, we would leave Manila on Saturday night because his classes don’t get finished until 5:00 p.m of that day.

Shopping Fast: July Report

Note: I started my self-imposed shopping ban on January 1, 2014. I made it official online through this post, and called it a “shopping fast.” I also shared there the reasons why I took the challenge and laid down some rules to guide me while on it.

Shopping Fast: January Report
Shopping Fast: February Report
Shopping Fast: March Report
Shopping Fast: April Report
Shopping Fast: May Report
Shopping Fast: June Report

Holy Moly, it’s August already! For my July report, all I can say is I’m still shopping-free. Wohooo!

COL Financial’s Mobile App is Now Here!

I have recently opened an account with COL Financial and so far, my experience with this online broker has been pretty good. I don’t have any gains from my stocks yet (hopefully my money will start growing soon!) but I try to keep calm and steady. I now see myself as a risk-taker kind of investor so I believe everything’s gonna be okay sooner or later. But anyway, the good news I want to share is that they finally launched their mobile app!

col mobile app

I actually learned about this development from my college friend who posted about it on Facebook. Being an iPhone user, I immediately followed the instructions and downloaded the app. (As per the poster above, Android and tablet versions are not yet available.) The information you can find inside are almost complete: stocks portfolio, stock codes, buy and sell orders, trading info, stock market updates, etc. It’s not user-friendly at the moment and the interface is not so good, either. But let’s give COL Financial the time to improve/upgrade it in the coming days or months.
