A Shopping Ban before Christmas

It’s the first day of September and here in Manila, the start of the -ber months only means one thing – Christmas Season! You see, we have one of the longest (if not the longest) Christmas celebrations in the world, and proud of it. As early as now, I want to save up as much money as I can to prepare for another fun and meaningful Christmas with my family and loved ones. To make sure I would be able to do this, I have decided to impose something upon myself. I’ll be on a shopping ban until November 30. Yes, that’s right.

By shopping ban, I mean keeping myself from buying any material thing for myself (gadgets, clothes, accessories, and the likes) until the date I specified. The exception here is the little shopping (for pasalubongs) I am doing in my upcoming trip abroad. My determination and discipline will now be officially put to the test. This will literally translate to keeping myself away from the cash drawer of my fave shops (I always try to pay in cash, you know). For sure, it’s gonna be a tough challenge for me. So help me God.

Good De-cluttering

Last Sunday night, I got to clean up my closet and got rid of a pile of old clothes. One of my mom’s friends visited her in the house the other day. They haven’t seen each other for a long time and so they did a lot of catching up. I think they spent the entire afternoon chatting about each other’s lives and those of their other friends (now that’s not just chatting but gossiping, haha).

When her friend was about to leave, she asked my mom if we had old clothes to give to the less fortunate in their community. I thought the timing was perfect because I had kept a bag of old clothes to be given away to whoever wanted them. When I told her about it, she was elated and thanked us profusely.

Time to Move-In

Today is gonna be a great day for the fiancee. Hours from now, we will be going to the developer’s office to get the move-in documents for his new house in Cavite. The last time we checked out the place, we did a thorough inspection of the unit in the presence of the property manager. Luckily, there was not much to report except for a few cement and paint stains here and there.

The next step to all of this is the move-in. Did I mention that the house has its own water and electricity already? As early as now, the fiancee has started canvassing for light fixtures to install in the house. Some home improvement projects are in place, too. It’s gonna be costly for sure, but it seems he had prepared for that a long time ago. Good for him. Haha.

Babies are a Blessing

My mommy friends are growing. Just the other week, my friend and co-worker at the restaurant gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. She named him Matt Michael and she can’t wait to take care of him. She delivered by caesarian section. The expenses keep piling up according to her, but it’s so worth it.

I can feel her happiness. Despite all the hardships from pregnancy up to the delivery itself, she said that her baby is a blessing from God. He is now her source of strength, love and devotion. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. I admire her for that. I also can’t wait to see her baby. I remember when she was still preggy, I’d regularly check her FB account for new photos of her with a bloated tummy inside her maternity clothes. That’s why I’m bugging her to upload photos of her baby in her FB account as soon as possible.

My Want List

I have this list of wants in an Excel file stored somewhere in my PC. Each want is either a long-time dream that I want to realize, a goal that I want to achieve, a skill that I want to learn, a task that I want to get done, an experience that I want to enjoy or just a material thing that I want to own. I open the list everyday and read each want aloud in my head. When a want has been gotten or accomplished, I put the exact date opposite it instead of crossing it out. As the days go by, more and more wants are added to the list. As time passes by, more and more wants are also getting realized.

I once read that when you think of something, and you start thinking about getting it, your subconscious mind somehow affects the universe (and everything in it) and eventually, they would conspire to make your wish or dream come true. I’d like to believe that it’s logical, just like how it is with the popular belief on “mind over matter.” But then of course, it’s never just that. As a person, we have to do our part to turn things into reality. As with my want list, I make sure to do my part by working hard to achieve each want. I guess, I still believe most in the Filipino saying, “Kapag may tiyaga, may nilaga.”

Low-Cost Housing in Cavite

I’m a proud owner of a low-cost housing unit in Cavite. It’s actually my gift to my parents who are currently living there. I chose a low-cost house over an expensive one for practical reason. I’d rather go for a low-cost house that I could finish paying for than an expensive one that could end up in the hands of the bank at a slight twist of fate.

Slowly, we are improving the structure and the interiors of the house by introducing repairs here and there. So far, we’re done with tile flooring and back extension and we also bought some furnishings and home appliances to make life easier for our parents. We have more home improvement projects lined up, but we’re doing it one project at a time.
