Just Another Long Weekend

Another long weekend is approaching and I’m one of those who are giddy with excitement about it. I need a break, and this is the kind of break I need. I have a few previous commitments but other than that, I’m good. If I get lucky, I might be able to spend the rest of the long weekend with my family in our Cavite abode and we might just push thru our swimming plans.

Speaking of our home, I just learned from mom that our electricity is back. Last week, an electric wire (the one connected to the electric meter) suddenly exploded. We were all here in Manila and it was our neighbor who reported it to us. She said it could be because of the heavy rains or something to that effect. It was a good thing we left the house with the main electric switch turned off so it was not affected by the power explosion. The repair alone cost me over a thousand pesos. When I paid for the electrician’s labor services, I knew I could no longer lend my brother money to buy one of those sleek samsung digital cameras he was eyeing online. So sorry, bro. You will have to wait next month for that.

Partially Orphaned

Today I have received the saddest news ever. My co-worker at the restaurant died yesterday, moments after giving birth to a beautiful baby girl. According to her husband who delivered the sad news from Iloilo, she had suffered severe blood loss and that was what caused her demise.

As much as I mourn for the lost of my co-worker who was also a friend to me, I can’t help but think about her baby’s future. Now the baby is partially orphaned. Yes, she still has a father to take care of her but being mother-less is a painful reality that she has to face very soon.

The Influx of Koreans in Manila

Last night at the resto, we had one big group of culinary students as guests. If I’m not mistaken, one third of them were Koreans. I happened to serve them during dinner and they were a cool bunch. A little noisier than usual, but they were generally nice.

It’s funny because right after work, I immediately resumed watching my fave Korean drama. From Korean to another Korean, haha. I would have wanted to finish one more episode but our internet connection suddenly acted up. I also wasn’t able to finish the movie I’ve long wanted to watch because of that. Which made me thought about getting analog digital online, just so I could have more choices (when it comes to Korean dramas and Hollywood movies) and better viewing experience.

Coffee or Tea?

I always choose tea. If I’m craving for iced coffee with lots of milk, then that’s the only time I prefer having coffee over tea. I dunno but unlike many people I know who can’t live without getting their caffeine fix on a daily basis, I can survive days and weeks and years without coffee.

It must be because I did not grow up drinking coffee. It’s funny because both of my parents did. Until now, their mornings and afternoons aren’t complete without coffee. Even my brother has shared this coffee addiction during his college years. I remember he would drink gallons of coffee when he was still working on their group thesis. He was thin then and his face was pimply because of stress and lack of sleep. It was a good thing he found some miracle acne soap to clear his acne-infested face before it was too late. But I digress.

My New Yogurt Fave

I have always been a yogurt lover. I eat any edible stuff with yogurt in it. While my fave is still the frozen yogurt sold in yogurt shops, sometimes I get to have the ones produced by Nestle and I enjoy them, too. In fact, my latest addiction is Nestle’s Fruit Selection Yogurt in Lychee Almond Nata flavor. I’ve been buying it from the supermarket since last week and I couldn’t seem to stop. I used to buy just two cups but now, I wanna get a dozen already!

My new yogurt fave from Nestle is tangy, creamy, sweet and juicy all at the same time. The lychee gives a clean taste to the mouth while the nata de coco bits add flavor and texture to the yogurt. I love, love this snack! Each cup costs P23.50 and has up to 1.25 billion live microorganisms that “keep my tummy happy.” Haha.

On Hope and Shoes

I see hope everywhere. I maybe pessimistic, but it doesn’t mean I give up easily. I know when there is still hope left in something. Like my shoes, for instance. I was doing some cleaning at home yesterday when I spotted my dusty shoe rack. After a little inspection, I found out that I had four pairs of shoes that needed repair. Since I had spare money, I decided to take them to our trusty shoe repairman and save ‘em shoes from impending destruction.

I sent the shoes to the neighborhood repair shop just before we heard the morning mass. While the two shoes needed stitching of the soles, the other two had broken heels that needed to be replaced. When the shoes were done, they were sent to our house and I paid a total of P300 for the entire batch. Pricey? Not really. Shoe repair shops in malls charge way higher for the same services.
