Lessons on Stock Market Investing, Vol. VI

On July 21, 2014, my 30-year old self braved the financially rewarding yet dangerous world of stock market investing. I have never looked back since that time. Officially on my fourth year in my COL Financial journey today, I wish I have new lessons to share with you based on my first-hand account but I haven’t really been paying that much attention to my portfolio in the past months. The market has been down since February and all I’ve been doing is receiving dividends (which always makes my day!) and buying stocks (they are sold at bargain prices these days!) when I have extra money to deposit to my COL Financial account.

Making the Most of My Credit Card Rewards

Because I know better now (after learning my lesson the hard way years ago and eventually becoming credit card debt-free), I accumulate rewards from my credit cards instead of debts. I said credit cards (with an “s”) because from having just one credit card, I now have two from the same credit card company — Citibank Cash Back (Visa) and Citibank Rewards (Mastercard). These two different cards come with cool rewards that make using them worth my while. And because I’m now more disciplined than ever, I get to make the most of my credit card rewards!

Weekend Story: Homebodies + Puregold’s Petron Fuel Discounts

The hubby and I braved the heavy traffic just so we could go home in Bacoor on Friday night. We wanted to stay longer for the weekend and it was the only way we could do so. We didn’t go out except for the time when we went to church and bought supplies from our new favorite supermarket — Puregold. I don’t know with you but we’ve compared prices and so far, Puregold gives the most bang for our buck. Plus, Puregold promos are aplenty all year round!

And because we’ve been a Petron customer for years now because of our car, we were glad to find out that one of the Puregold promos at present is giving fuel discounts through Petron as part of their 20th anniversary. It’s PHP3 off per liter of gasoline and PHP1 off per liter of diesel from May 16, 2018 to May 15, 2019 at participating Petron branches. You just have to show your Puregold Perks card or Puregold Tindahan ni Aling Puring’s card (for business owners) to the gas attendant to avail of the discounts. Not bad especially these days when fuel prices have been on the rise, right?

Weekend Story: Breakfast at Antonio’s + Gringo Chicken and Ribs

Last weekend was all about enjoying good food and good company. First, there was Breakfast at Antonio’s in Tagaytay where the hubby and I, along with my youngest sister Jodie, had a hearty brunch on Sunday morning. Then, there was the newly-opened Gringo Chicken and Ribs at SM Manila where we had a nice dinner with my in-laws on the same day upon our return to Manila. I, therefore, conclude that this weekend made me bigger than ever, hahaha. Diet, we shall meet again tomorrow! 😛

Weekend Story: Islas Pinas + Virgin Lab Fest 14

Last weekend was highlighted by experiences that were a delight to the senses. On Saturday, the hubby and I checked out the newest food park in town — Islas Pinas at Double Dragon Plaza in Pasay City. Then we, along with my brother Dan, watched the Set D (composed of three independent plays) of the Virgin Lab Fest XIV held at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) before driving home in Bacoor. We would meet up with my in-laws to dine at Islas Pinas again on Sunday night before going back to Manila.

Weekend Story: Office Team Building at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan

Last weekend turned out to be a long one for me because our office held its strategic planning and workshop (read: team building) on June 25-26 which fell on a Monday and a Tuesday. The chosen venue was the breathtaking heritage resort called Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in the sleepy little town of Bagac, Bataan. So, after spending a rainy weekend in Bacoor with the hubby, I packed my bag for the team building and created happy memories with the people from work (we were a group of 15).

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar was a great place, an ideal respite from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. After settling in our beautiful villa called Casa Meycauyan, we did the fascinating heritage tour and just took in the sights and enjoyed the vintage vibe. While we could get used to slow living in a place filled with lovely old houses and gifted with a fantastic view of the West Philippine Sea, we had to go back to Manila and continue with our busy (yet most of the time fulfilling) lives as civil servants.
