Some Thoughts on Dining Out

While dining out is fun, it can get expensive. As much as I wanted to skip dining out to save money, I can’t. There’s a lot of new and old restaurants to try, which means there’s also a lot of good food to taste and a lot of good company to have a fun time with.

While entertaining at home is also a good option, many people prefer dining out today when meeting with friends or spending some quality time with their loved ones. It’s must be because it’s more convenient and requires less effort than cooking food and setting up the dining table and cleaning up the mess after. Personally, I do enjoy entertaining at home despite all the hassles, but only during special occasions and when I’m in the mood for laboring in the kitchen (which is seldom).

Chic-Boy on Molino Boulevard, Bacoor

Dinner tonight was sponsored by the hubby. We dined at the newly-opened Chic-Boy restaurant housed inside the 678 Commercial Center, a business complex located just a few blocks from where we live. We feasted on Cebu lechon manok and liempo. Food was good. And cheap, too.

Since they’ve just opened recently, we expected that the service would be quite awful. We weren’t disappointed. Our orders arrived late, but we liked the fact the crew were apologetic and friendly. They would gladly receive requests for water and rice (they serve unlimited rice there!) and try to deliver them as soon as they could.

Virlanie Foundation’s Dine to Smile Project

Do you love giving to charity? What if you could enjoy great food along with it, wouldn’t it be all the more fulfilling? Virlanie Foundation currently has a project dubbed as “Dine to Smile.” They partnered with restaurants to generate funds to help street children which has been their mission since their inception in 1992. I’m blogging about this now to help promote this notable project in my own little way and because one of the participating restaurants is La Cocina de Tita Moning where I work part-time as tour guide.

Craving for Noodles

When I got introduced to authentic Japanese ramen thru a blogger food tasting at Rai Rai Ken (Finlandia Makati Branch), I knew it would be the start of my love affair with noodles. The truth is, I have always liked noodles in its many forms. A steaming bowl of noodles never fails to put a smile on my face. It lifts my spirits and awakens my senses. When I’m far from home and find myself eating one, it makes me feel closer to my family. Or so the experience suggests.

Last night, I was craving for some noodles for dinner. I wanted to go to the nearest Rai Rai Ken store but my mom and I got stuck at SM supermarket grocery shopping. Good thing there was a Pao Tsin stall in their fast food corner. If you’re not too familiar with it, it’s that area facing the supermarket counters catering to people on-the-go who would like to get a quick bite before they go about their business for the day.

Great Deals at Ensogo Philippines

I love great deals! When I see one, I examine it closely and when it’s as real as it looks, I buy it. Groupon (group coupon) sites have sprouted like wild mushrooms in Manila. Their marketing approach is very simple and straightforward. They make deals available in batches (100 to 3000 vouchers or more at any given time) and sell them to people online. It’s like having a personal shopper where good deals are laid on the table for your picking. Discounts can go as high as 80%. Payments are made thru credit cards, banks and even Paypal. The more you buy, the more you get to save money.

Among the many groupon sites today, I have become quite loyal to Ensogo Philippines (http://www.ensogo.com.ph). This groupon site that orginated in Thailand has many exciting offers to choose from and whose prices I find pocket-friendly. They have deals for everyone, from restaurant treats and travel packages to beauty and pampering services. I like that they come up with new offers sooner and the validity dates (the length of time you are allowed to use/avail a service) of their vouchers are longer that those offered by other groupon sites. Plus, you earn credits (1 point equals P1) in some of their deals which you could then use in your future transactions.

January is My Food Trip Month

Oh how time flies! Before I knew it, a month has ended and a new month has arrived. If there’s one thing that could sum up the month of January for me, it has to be food trips! January has been all about eating for this proactive soul.

It all started with the New Year where I cooked several simple but hearty dishes for our Media Noche. I indulged in glorious, fatty food that time. Two weeks later, Superfriend Nice and I got invited to a seafood feast thru Marriott Hotel’s Ocean Surf Buffet. This luxury hotel is housed inside the huge Resorts World Manila Complex in Pasay City (fronting NAIA 3). Once more, I ate to my heart’s content but this time, I feasted on fresh bounties from the sea and a lot more.
