Vacation Mode

Lately, I’ve been noticing that my mind wanders when I’m at work. Busy or not, it happens. It’s like I want to be in a different place, like in a beach or something. I dunno, but maybe my body wants me to stay on vacation mode as I just came from a fantastic weekend getaway in Tagaytay (see my previous post). Haha. But the nearest vacation, or summer outing to be exact, that I could have won’t happen until next week. It’s our office outing, a sort of team building activity to be held in a beach resort somewhere in Batangas.

Speaking of our office outing, I just remembered I have yet to pack my things. Good thing it’s holiday tomorrow (hello, Labor Day). Since it’s just an overnight trip, I should pack light. And I better remind myself not to bring the house with me, like I always do when packing for a 3D 2N out-of-town trip with the hubby. (The man is actually the one on vacation mode right now as their office outing started yesterday and will be ending tonight.)

Our Weekend Getaway at Cross Winds Swiss Luxury Resort

Last weekend was all about rest and recreation. We had an overnight stay at Cross Winds Swiss Luxury Resort in Tagaytay. It was my SIL’s birthday last Saturday and she thought of taking us there for a weekend getaway.

We had a great time exploring the Swiss-inspired place, from the pine trees and the lush greenery to the beautiful Swiss-themed houses and the rest of the amenities. Truly, it was one weekend to remember. We just hung out in our room, ate our baon for lunch and snacks and had delivery food for dinner.

First Time at Mall of Asia Arena

So, last night we were at Mall of Asia Arena to watch the coronation night of Ms. Bikini Philippines 2013 by Slimmers World. I was with the hubby, my superfriend Nice and two other friends Melay and Zyre. It was our first time to get inside the place and boy, was it huge! According to their site, it has a seating capacity of 16,000 for sporting events, and a full house capacity of 20,000.

The show was starting at 7pm and we arrived at the venue a couple of minutes prior so we decided to grab a quick bite first. We explored their food court and found several stores that could appease our hungry tummies. I think I saw less than 10 food stores there but based on the posters on the wall, there are a few more opening soon. The in-house food store simply called Snacks serves surprisingly cheap food. The hubby got a bacon cheeseburger, a hotdog sandwich and a glass of Coke, all for just P190!

On Living Within Your Means

I came from a lower middle class family. Unlike other families where both parents are working, it was just my dad who had a job. My mom took care of our home, of us. It was in my early years that I fully grasped the meaning of living within your means, through the examples and practices of my parents.

Then, my mom had a budget to follow and I believed she was able to manage her spending most of the time. Maybe it’s because she knew she couldn’t overspend because it would make her children hungry and her husband disappointed. During those times when she did overspend, she was smart enough to cover for it by borrowing money from friends. A not so smart practice, but at least, she was able to feed us and we didn’t go hungry for our dad to notice.

A New Dish I Love

One taste and I got hooked. That’s how I could describe this fish dish that I first tried last week. My boss brought some in the office for her lunch which she eventually shared with us. According to Kuya Richard, her driver, it was her maid who cooked it.

I liked the boneless bangus steak very much I started to wonder how she was able to make the fish so tender and tasty and the sauce even tastier. I’ve tasted boneless bangus steak before but her version was 100x more delicious. I got so curious I asked Kuya Richard if he could inquire with the maid the complete recipe, if possible. Haha. I wanted to replicate it at home and impress the hubby.

How to Use an iPhone 5

No, this is not a step-by-step guide on using Apple’s latest phone but rather, just a quick story about my officemate who happens to the owner of a new iPhone 5. He asked me to help him familiarize himself with his new phone. Since I use an iPhone 4 and the hubby uses an iPhone 5 (which I get to borrow once in a while), I thought I was qualified for the task and said yes immediately. Actually, it was the hubby who had configured his phone so he could start using it.

So, for our first lesson, we started with texting. When he got used to the multi-touch user interface of his phone in sending messages to his family and friends, we went on to transferring music files from YouTube to his phone. I had him download this cool app from the AppStore that lets you do just that and more. He liked it. He said he’d download more music files and a couple of movies, too, for listening and viewing at home.
