Road to Recovery

Recovering from a c-section takes a long time, but it can be done. After spending three long and tiring days in the hospital, I was finally allowed to go home.

Looking back, I thought I couldn’t do it. But when you’re left with no other choice, you risk everything and just go on. I’m just really grateful to God that the surgery was uneventful.

The 28th of September

It was a random Friday. The sun was up and the day seemed full of life and vigor. The road to the hospital was busy and one wouldn’t possibly feel any hint of the approaching danger in the air…

The hubby and I got up early to pay a visit to my Ob-Gyne for my prenatal check-up. I was at my 33 weeks of pregnancy then. She was friendly and warm, as usual. She asked how I and the baby were. Casually, I shared with her about the baby’s seemingly lesser movements the past days which I attributed to the limited space in my womb. The baby’s getting bigger, after all.

Dining at Blackbeard’s Seafood Island, SM Manila

Do you enjoy eating with a group? Do you like the idea of eating on a table filled with food for everyone to enjoy at the same time? How about eating with your bare hands, sans spoon and fork, for a more familiar dining experience? You can experience all that and more at the newly-opened restaurant called Blackbeard’s Seafood Island in SM Manila.

I’ve experienced dining at their Alabang Town Center branch before and just recently, I attended the grand opening of their SM Manila branch (along with two other new restaurants) though I didn’t get to taste their popular “boodle feasts” because I was already too full by then. I was so excited to try their food again that I brought the hubby and my SIL there just the other night.

Car Mishap

Last Saturday was an unlucky day for our car Nissen. While traveling on Coastal Road going to Manila, its windshield got hit by a stone and cracked. The hubby and his passengers at that time (my in-laws) barely noticed it. They just heard a sound akin to a newly-popped balloon and before they knew it, the windshield was already damaged.

According to the hubby, after the windshield got broken, he was already calculating the expenses in his head. If it were just a dashboard scorecard for reporting (ooopps, not car-related!), the expenses would surely be lesser. But it is a windshield priced at not lower than 25K (total package)…oh goodness gracious!

Lactation Tips

As I plan to breastfeed my baby for as long as I can, I seriously need a lot of lactation tips. Actually, I’ve been reading up on a lot of materials online and found some very interesting articles. I’ve even come across organizations actively advocating and promoting this cause here in Manila.

At home, I’ve started cooking soupy dishes with lots of veggies. My favorite so far is chicken tinola with fresh papaya slices and lots of ginger strips and malunggay leaves. Aside from filling my tummy with healthy food, I also plan to get malunggay capsules because I heard it helps big time in producing breast milk.

Snacking While Pregnant

It’s a given that pregnant women like me get hungry all the time. But it doesn’t mean I have to eat whenever my stomach grumbles. I have to watch what I eat to make sure I consume only the healthy stuff and not just empty calories. I also have to monitor how many times I eat in a day so I don’t gain weight that’s beyond what is expected of or normal for me.

I noticed that during weekends, I only get to eat three times a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Weekdays are a different story. During weekdays, I get to eat six times a day (three normal meals and three snacks). What can I do? I get hungry at work all the time and my hunger continues to attack a few hours before midnight.
