Weekend Story: Alone and Productive

The hubby went on a field trip slash bonding activity with his masteral group last weekend. It was a 2D 1N kind of event so we weren’t able to go home in Bacoor. I was left in Manila at my PILs’ place the entire weekend until the hubby got back from Subic on Sunday night.

Since the place where my siblings (and parents) currently reside in is just across the street from my PILs’ house, I spent most of my Saturday there. I was able to eat less, too, primarily because I didn’t have the hubby with me. But no, it wasn’t because I got emotional and missed him terribly (though I have to admit I missed him a bit!), it was just that he has a big appetite and he tends to influence me to overeat. Haha.

How I Try to Live Below My Means

You’ve heard it before. Living within your means is good. But living below your means is better. I have been living within my means for as long as I can remember. And I found out it’s doable. But living below my means???

When I started having solid “financial goals” this year, I thought about trying to live below what my income can afford. You see, the hubby and I keep our salaries to ourselves and we just share in our household expenses, mortgage payments, and other bills. (This setup is subject to change any time we I deem it necessary.) The exact percentages I cannot divulge here, but let’s just say he’s a real gentleman.

Weekend Story: Anniv Date and Quiet Sunday

Last weekend was kinda special because it was our 10th anniversary as couple. (We started dating and became steady in 2004.) The actual date is October 18th and we celebrated it through a simple dinner at a casino food court. I’ve read raves online about Solaire’s food court so I convinced the hubby to dine there before going home in Bacoor. We weren’t disappointed. It looked like a high-end food court and the dining staff were very attentive. The food was good and cheap, too.

I want to be a flexitarian.

A semi-vegetarian or flexitarian diet is described on Wikipedia as “one that is plant-based with the occasional inclusion of meat products. Lately, I’ve been thinking of adopting this kind of diet primarily for my weight loss efforts. I wouldn’t mind reaping its health benefits in the long run, too.

The last time I checked my weight (just this morning!), it was 126 lbs. I’m 5’4″ tall and wear a size M, sometimes L. My weight usually goes up to 130 lbs. during weekends (when I tend to overeat!) and go back to 124 lbs. during weekdays when I get to control my appetite (most of the time, ehem). That’s been the case for me in the past months and somehow, I’m a bit disappointed with the results of my weight loss efforts so I’m thinking, maybe this flexitarian diet could work on me. Haha.

Weekend Story: Birthday Dinner with Friends

So, yesterday was my birthday and we were in Bacoor. We went home on Saturday night along with my parents because I requested them so. Haha. My mom helped me prepare a simple dinner for my friends who live around the area. We also invited a few of our neighbor-friends over.

It was tiring to cook food but I still went ahead with it because it’s more economical to feed 20 people that way than treating them to a restaurant. Plus, I still have two more birthday dinners to host for my other friends so I have to stick to my budget. As it turned out, we had so much food left that night. We brought everything to Manila this morning for my siblings and my in-laws to enjoy.

3 Cash Dividend Payments in 1 Month

There are two ways to earn money in the stock market: capital appreciation and dividends. Last month, I was pleasantly surprised to receive three cash dividend payments. These were from the three companies in my stocks portfolio: Meralco (MER), Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) and Banco de Oro (BDO).

As a newbie stock investor, this good news made me very happy. It was my first time to receive dividends, after all. The feeling was kind of surreal. Haha. They were just small amounts, but they were still passive income. I didn’t work for it; my money worked for it. And thinking about it now makes me more inspired to manage my finances better so I could continue making my money work for me (hello Mr. Robert Kiyosaki!).
