Happy Weekend

Though we weren’t able to go home last weekend due to some errands that we had to finish, our stay at my in-laws’ place was fun. Actually, after all the work we had to do, we just spent the rest of the weekend eating, sleeping, watching TV and going out. Not bad, huh. Not only did I get plenty of rest, I was also able to unwind and fix some personal stuff.

On Saturday afternoon, we finally shopped for our baby’s clothes and accessories at 168 Mall in Divisoria. It was very convenient for us because we parked our car at the nearby Lucky Chinatown before heading to 168 Mall. After all the shopping (I said “all” because we did some personal shopping, too!), we had a Chinese merienda at the posh food court of Lucky Chinatown before going home. There was a drizzle outside on our way home so traffic was inevitable, but we were too happy with our purchases to care.

Misunderstandings in the Family

There is no such thing as a perfect family. Like, in real life. I know my family isn’t perfect but I’m happy we’re a complete and strong one. There are times when family members get into petty fights but usually, they aren’t enough to break the bond that hold us together.

Misunderstandings in the family happen all the time. It’s part of the normal cycle, I think. In our family, I often get misunderstood for my actions, the sometimes harsh words that come out of my mouth, and the way I try to discipline some family members that are pasaway (brat or troublesome). So it’s not unusual that misunderstandings between some family members and me ensue without warning. It’s a good thing everything gets fixed peacefully in the end.

Passion for Reading

My sister O is growing to be a voracious reader. She’s 19 years old at present and her passion for reading is quite intense, especially nowadays when her access to numerous free e-books are made possible by the internet (hello torrent downloads!). While she likes to read both fiction and non-fiction books, I think she prefers those romance novels that get adapted into films more.

I remember one time she tried to get herself a sort of ereader at the source for her small collection of e-books, only to find out later that she could just make use of her phone for the same purpose. I mean, she has a nice phone that opens PDF files and more. I’m happy that she really finds ways to make the most of her reading experience.

First Salary

Last Thursday was a happy time for my side of the family. My sister N, a new member of the Philippine labor force, finally received her first salary. The salary was supposed to get into her brand new and shiny ATM on August 7 but due to the bad weather, it was delayed by two days. But my sister didn’t mind at all; she was more overwhelmed with the fact that she now earns a living! Yipee!

Between my brother D and and my sister N, the latter is more mature when it comes to handling finances. As soon as she withdrew the money from her ATM, she divided it immediately to where they should go. She gave my mom some money and our sister J, too. She even allotted money to buy new clothes for herself, a leather repair kit for our old sofa (as requested by dad), and some groceries.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Today is my mom’s birthday. She’s now 58 years old. A bit old, yes, but it doesn’t show. She’s still full of energy and laughter. There’s no dull moment with her around. She’s a natural clown and we love her to pieces.

Mom, I know you don’t read my blog but I just want to feature you here because I appreciate your presence in my life all these years. You’ve been a source of strength and inspiration to me. I can’t imagine life without you. Every day I thank God for giving you into my life.

Soon you’ll gonna be a grandmother to my first baby na. I know you’re very excited about it. I’m confident that you’ll be a good Mamu to my baby. I thank you in advance.

Keep the youthful spirit alive, mom! I’m just here when you need me. I will never let you down like how you’ve never let me down, ever. My siblings and I will take care of you and dad when you grow older, and that’s a promise. Mwah! 🙂

The Perfect Dentures

A fortnight ago, my mom’s dentures got broken. It was the kind of “broken” that could no longer be fixed. I didn’t have a choice but to get her a new one. It was a good thing I had the money to pay for it. And so, she immediately asked her friend to accompany her to the dentist. After a day of waiting, her dentures arrived and I could tell by her facial expressions she was ecstatic to have her teeth back.

My mom’s new dentures were reasonably priced. It was actually way cheaper than her old set. And boy, does it look good on her. Perfect fit, I must say. I don’t know if it’s the natural sparkle of the porcelain teeth or the nice shape of the teeth that makes the dentures attractive. All I know is that, it makes my mom look younger than her real age. Whenever she smiles, her new dentures smiles with her, if you know what I mean. Sometimes I wish I had dentures so I could achieve the same look. Haha.
