A Birthday Lunch

Right after hearing mass, we had a birthday lunch in Malabon. Traffic was light so we didn’t have a hard time getting here. Its actually the boyfriend’s uncle’s birthday today and we’re here to join in the fun. The celebration is still ongoing. I had a hearty lunch and I particularly enjoyed the pork caldereta and the gambas. Yummy. I feel very at home; it must be because I’ve been here for a few times already. There’s internet connection so the blogger in me took advantage.

I like it here. The boyfriend’s uncle’s family is big. There are two babies that keep the house alive. They are both healthy and bubbly. They would smile and giggle for no reason. They’re a sight to behold. The boyfriend’s mom is having a great time playing with them. I played with them earlier and it was fun. I even urged the boyfriend to give them strollers come Christmas time, like those uppababy vista strollers I saw in a baby shopping site the other day while picking a gift for J, my best friend’s baby and my god child.

Happy Palm Sunday and the San Miguel Community Procession

We started our Sunday morning earlier than usual today. I, along with the boyfriend’s family, joined in the community procession for Palm Sunday. We walked from the plaza all the way to San Miguel Shrine (our church). We passed thru several streets and alleys on our way to the church. Each of us were holding our blessed palaspas (decorative palm fronds). We enjoyed walking while chanting out the Osana song. The community procession was actually a reenactment of a scene in the holy bible where Jesus Christ, the son of God, walked down from the Mount of Olives and were welcomed by the people.

As we passed thru the houses, people looked out their windows and joined us in the singing. It was my first time to passed thru those alleys and I couldn’t help but admire the beautiful houses nestled in there. Most of them had lovely terraces and cool home address signs. They even had plenty of potted plants outside that added aesthetic appeal to their places of residence.

10 Things I am Thankful for

Every day is a blessing. The moment we wake up is a blessing as it means we are still breathing and yes, very much alive. At times when I feel blue, I think of the many things that I should be thankful for. Today is a great day for me. I’m definitely not feeling blue. But somehow, I feel like thinking about a lot of things that I’m grateful for. There are so many of them so I’ll just stick with the things that I’m really very thankful for this week. Ten things.

1. a new job for my brother (he had his first day at work last Monday)
2. a new refrigerator for mom, for our Cavite home (purchased yesterday)
3. a full version of Fruit Ninja for my iPod Touch 4G (purchased last Tuesday)
3. several fun blog events that I had the pleasure of attending this week
4. a generally healthy body
5. having spent some quality time with the boyfriend and his family
6. having seen my parents last Friday
7. lotsa food to eat and enjoy
8. productive blogging

The Need for Health Insurance

My parents are not getting any younger and as time passes by, the pressure to provide them with health insurance is building up on me. Actually, it’s not just them who need it. We all do. Right now, we only have PhilHealth to depend on in case we get sick. That’s why I”m looking for cheap but comprehensive health insurance for all of us. Is there such as thing as cheap but comprehensive health insurance? I hope so.

Speaking of health insurance, I wonder if our OFWs have one. I mean, it’s not easy getting sick in a foreign land, away from your loved ones who could provide you the care you need. While getting sick can be prevented through exercise and eating healthily, getting caught in an accident while working abroad isn’t. Accidents happen without prior notice. Which makes health insurance of the good kind a must for them.

Close to Being Pennyless

At least that’s what I felt earlier today after my trip to Cavite. Tagging the boyfriend along with me, I visited SM Rosario to buy my mom a new refrigerator. Though I paid thru credit card, I couldn’t help but feel close to being pennyless because my next payday is still one week from now and yet I have already spent my entire personal allowance for next week. Expenses just piled up from nowhere and before I knew it, 90% of my money was gone.

Now I’m very tempted to get cash advances from whoever is willing to lend me money. Just kidding. It’s a good thing I have other income sources aside from my day job. Actually, I can’t seem to be contented. I always try to find new sources of income and think of new ways to make money. There was even one time I thought of putting up a small business. But I know I can’t do that yet. I need to save up more money and get an MBA first. Yeah, just to be sure my business would grow and flourish.
