Post-Christmas Family Date

When I got married, I made it clear with the hubby that I wanted to spend Christmas with my side of the family every year. We actually arrived at a setup that suits the both of us — Christmas at my parents’ place in Naic with my family and New Year at our marital home in Bacoor with his. This way, we get to be with our respective families on these two special occasions. And so far, it’s been working greatly for us. Everybody happy.

it’s a yellow Christmas for the Mabalay family!

This year, our Christmas traditions as a family (my side) live on. The hubby and I spent Christmas with my family in Naic. We had a family pictorial using our old DSLR (a Canon 1000D) and when the clock struck 12, we partook of our simple Noche Buena feast. There would have been a mini-concert, too, because we have a microphone and an old folding music stand lying around, but unfortunately, the singers in our house (a.k.a. my younger sister Jodie and my dad) weren’t in the mood for it.

Weekend Story: Fun Saturday and Productive Sunday

Last weekend was spent entirely in Manila. The hubby had classes on Saturday and I had to go to work yesterday so we ditched the idea of spending the weekend in Bacoor. It turned out to be a good decision because we had ample time to spend with our respective families.

On Saturday, while the hubby was getting to know his new teachers and classmates at the university (read: first day of classes), I crossed the street and went to my siblings’ place to bond with my family.

Triple Celebration

We had a triple celebration last night. It was for the following occasions: my mom’s birthday (July 30th), my PILs wedding anniversary (July 31st) and my MIL’s birthday (August 7th). We wanted to celebrate together and due to differences in schedule, we decided to celebrate everything in one go. (It was also economical that way.) And so, we had dinner last night at Shakey’s SM Manila, one of our fave restaurants and the most convenient venue for all of us.

The hubby’s side of the family has only four members while mine has a total of six. My SIL Albie couldn’t make it for the dinner because of work (the month-end period at a bank’s headquarters can be very toxic I heard!). We were still a group of 10 though because my cousin Celeste was there. (She came back from Taiwan last Monday, dropped by our house to stay for a few days and will be leaving for Cebu tonight to continue her short vacation with her family there.)

Holy Week 2014

We had a simple but fun and meaningful Holy Week break. The hubby and I were joined by my two siblings Jodie and Son at home in Bacoor. But we went to Cavite only after we finished the traditional Visita Iglesia in Manila. We visited a total of seven churches, as usual.

On Good Friday, we just stayed at home the entire morning and early afternoon. I baked a chocolate cake out of boredom and it turned out so good. We ate it after every meal until the very last slice was eaten up.

A Packed Weekend

As much as I prefer to spend my weekends at home just cooking, baking, organizing, sleeping or doing other fun stuff, there are times when I have to go with the flow of activities my husband or his family has in mind. Like last weekend, for instance. My PILs both took a weekend-off and they decided to join us in Bacoor for the weekend. My SIL (one and only sibling of my husband) tagged along, too. It was two straight days of going out and doing things that families commonly do.

On Saturday, we traveled all the way to Antipolo to visit the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Shrine. It’s been a tradition for my PILs to go there before a scheduled trip to their province (they’re flying to Bohol on May 12 for their annual month-long vacay). After attending the morning mass, the brunch at McDo and the buying of suman and kasuy, we headed to Bacoor already. Before going to our marital home, we had a late lunch at Shakey’s first. We were too exhausted from our long trip that when we reached home, we all decided to doze off. Haha.
