Weekend Story: Stuck in Manila and We Were Okay with It

Last weekend was spent entirely in Manila. The hubby and I were supposed to go home in Bacoor but because the delivery of the hubby’s package from Lazada got delayed in transit due to some routing issue, we had to change our plan. Instead of arriving last Saturday, it arrived yesterday. Staying in Manila on a weekend wasn’t that bad. We just made the most out of it.

On Saturday, the hubby went to school while I enjoyed some “me” time at my in-laws’ place. In the afternoon, I spent some quality time with my family at my siblings’ place. When dinnertime came, I met up with the hubby, my SIL Albie, and our friend Carmela at Robinsons Ermita. The hubby treated us to dinner at Yakimix.

Triple Celebration

We had a triple celebration last night. It was for the following occasions: my mom’s birthday (July 30th), my PILs wedding anniversary (July 31st) and my MIL’s birthday (August 7th). We wanted to celebrate together and due to differences in schedule, we decided to celebrate everything in one go. (It was also economical that way.) And so, we had dinner last night at Shakey’s SM Manila, one of our fave restaurants and the most convenient venue for all of us.

The hubby’s side of the family has only four members while mine has a total of six. My SIL Albie couldn’t make it for the dinner because of work (the month-end period at a bank’s headquarters can be very toxic I heard!). We were still a group of 10 though because my cousin Celeste was there. (She came back from Taiwan last Monday, dropped by our house to stay for a few days and will be leaving for Cebu tonight to continue her short vacation with her family there.)

Our Banker

Remember the last graduate in our family? It didn’t take long before she landed her first job. Actually, she got accepted as teller at a local bank even before graduation day. Her formal training started just yesterday and soon, she’ll start working at her assigned branch. I’m just so so proud of my sister Jodie!

I can only wish her success as she starts her own career in the banking industry. It’s not gonna be a joy ride, for sure. There would be hard times, but I believe in her, I know she’s a toughie despite her small body frame. I’m very excited over this new chapter in her young life. So promising, so full of hope. We now have a banker in the family. Wohooo!

More Time with Family

After I got married, I have to admit I had less time to spend with my family. With family, I mean my parents and my three siblings. When I was still single, I used to be a homebody who spent most of my time with them. When the hubby came into my life, I had to share some of my time with him also.

It’s a good thing I have a husband who understands my need to check on my family, especially my parents, from time to time. It’s a good thing also that we live near them, well, technically. My in-laws’ place in Manila (where we stay at least twice or thrice a week) and my parents’ place are just a few steps away from each other.

Minor Accident

During a visit to a theme park last Saturday with his co-workers and some friends, my brother had an accident and broke his left arm. The whole family was worried sick about him. He was rushed to the nearest hospital and his fracture was secured by a cast.

He went to an orthopedist yesterday and after a thorough check-up, the doctor found out the fracture wasn’t that bad. The cast was removed and he went home just wearing a sling to protect his broken arm. Whew, what a relief!
