How I Became Credit Card Debt-Free

I dream of the time when I won’t have to use my credit card anymore. I dream of the time when I can just use my ATM or debit card to pay for my purchases. I dream for that time to come soon! Right now, I still depend on my one and only credit card (I used to have three) for when I travel (for plane tickets and hotel accommodations), shop (for big, expensive items only) and dine out (occasionally).

On a related note, I’m very glad about the recent development in my credit card use. I am now credit card debt-free! Yes, you read that right. And I plan to make it for good. This means no more impulsive shopping for me. This means no more shopping when financial blessings are about to be received (hello bonuses!) or when expecting that extra income from my side jobs.

Friday Plans

I normally don’t make Friday plans because this is the time we go home in Bacoor. Unless of course the hubby and I have a date or a meet-up with friends. The last time I went out on a Friday night, I was with the hubby and some friends pigging out at Midnight Mercato in BGC, Taguig.

Today, being a Friday, is a bit different, though. We have visitors who flew in from Bohol (the hubby’s province) and need to be shown around the city. They are municipal councilors and they’re here to attend a conference. The PILs’ suggestion was to take them to Mall of Asia (MOA) and choose from one of the buffet restaurants (e.g. Yakimix, Buffet 101, Vikings, Sakae Sushi, Cabalen, etc.) there for dinner. After that, we could just show them the many attractions within and around the mall complex at night. Alright then, MOA it is!

Custom Menu for My Blog

I tweaked this blog’s layout yesterday and came up with something smart and beautiful. If you’d notice in the menu above, I now have several items other than the old About, Blogroll and Privacy Policy pages. The additions include the following: Shopping Fast, Personal Finance, Weekend Stories, Frugal Finds and Cooking with Edel. They contain posts featuring those exact stuff or something related to them. I’ve seen many blogs with the same custom menu and I found it cool and interactive so I adopted the idea. Haha. In other blogs, these are what you’ll get when you click on the “Category” section.

This blog runs on WordPress (self-hosted) but uses a free WordPress theme. (I’ve yet to get a customized layout, but we’ll see about that in the future.) I was able to customize the menu easily after a little googling. What I did was I opened my dashboard, clicked the “Menu” under the “Appearance” section and added the menu links and titles one by one. Et voila, I now have a customized menu!

Another Line Increase from Citibank (And How I Reacted to It)

For the first time in my life, I didn’t feel happy after knowing that Citibank has just given me a line increase. I used to get excited whenever I’d get a surprise like this from credit card companies. I remember when I first landed a job after college, all I wanted to do was apply for a credit card. I even jumped for joy when I received my very first! Haha. (Obviously, I know better now.)

line increase
excerpt from the email I received from Citibank

From P45,000, my card’s credit limit is now P55,000. For some people who have cards with credit limit as high as P100,000 or more, this amount is small. But I guess I’m okay with a small credit limit. (My first card only had P15,000.) I’ve never really bothered to ask for a bigger credit limit even if I’m very much qualified now with my higher annual income.

Shopping Fast: February Report

Note: I started my self-imposed shopping ban on January 1, 2014. I made it official online through this post, and called it a “shopping fast.” I also shared there the reasons why I took the challenge and laid down some rules to guide me while on it.

Shopping Fast: January Report

I think I deserve a reward because I finished February without shopping. Wohooo! It wasn’t easy, though. I had to resist all those shining, shimmering and splendid things I saw in the malls. I’m just so proud of myself. Haha.

Anyway, January passed by really fast that I didn’t have time to get tempted to shop. February, on the other hand, was a little slow. And Valentine’s Day was there to put shopping in spotlight again. Good thing we celebrated it late by having a double date with my parents in Tagaytay. It was more on eating and sight-seeing so I didn’t have to guard myself from buying anything fancy.
