Dealing with #GlendaPH

Yesterday was terrible. Scratch that, it was scary! Typhoon Glenda (international name: Rammasun) hit Central Luzon (which includes Manila) and Southern Luzon (which includes Bacoor) with its strong and deadly winds. Once again, it made us feel how vulnerable we are to the forces of nature. Trees got uprooted, house roofs flew away, glass walls were shattered, electric posts and billboards fell down, many areas got flooded and hundreds of families got displaced. Thankfully, only several casualties were reported.

Most of us survived typhoon Glenda with minimal to zero damage to our properties, and so we have to be really grateful. The hubby and I were at my PILs’ place yesterday and everything was quite manageable. Power went out in the morning but came back just before dusk. For many areas, power hasn’t been restored yet so we consider ourselves lucky.

Meet my Mame

Forgive my sentimentality today. It’s because my mother’s birthday is fast-approaching. My mother’s name is Amparo but her friends call her Ampy. She’s the most loving and lovable person on earth for me. I love her to the moon and back. And I know she feels the same for me. She’ll be a year older on the 30th.

My mother and I share a special bond. It must be because I was an only child for a long time (my brother Danison was born when I was six years old) and my parents’ attention was all on me then. I have always been the favorite child. Or so I assume. Just kidding. Haha.

Baking with Edel: Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Ganache Frosting

I’ve always loved a good chocolate cake. When I learned how to bake my own, I loved it even more. I think I’ve finally found the chocolate cake recipe that suits my taste and those of my loved ones. If you remember this post, the chocolate cake recipe I used there was different.

a slice of chocolate-y goodness!

I think this new recipe I found is simpler and better. It’s also quite easy to follow. You don’t even need a mixer in making it. A whisker is enough, or even just an ordinary ladle. But since I’m a little OC and wanted to make sure all ingredients were thoroughly mixed, I decided to still use my Marubishi electric mixer.

On Boys and Cars

The hubby is so much into cars. He said it started when he was still a little boy. His dad, my FIL, is a family driver to an old-rich family and so he got exposed to different cars (mostly high-end models) at an early age. When he felt he could already afford a car of his own, he pushed for it in 2011 and so he now drives his own car (which I get to drive, too!).

Aside from reading about cars online and listening to car/tech podcasts, the hubby collects Top Gear magazines. Acquiring car knowledge is his only vice (and gadgets, too!) as he doesn’t smoke nor drink. Right now, he’s curious about kmc wheels and other car accessories. Oh, boys and their fascination with cars!

Weekend Story: Two Ramen Places and Two Unexpected House Guests

Last Saturday, the hubby and I met up with our Bohol-based friend Eric and his girlfriend Joy. She stays and works in Parañaque and he visits her regularly and vice versa. When the hubby had a short vacay in Bohol last May, he promised Eric that he’d take him to a ramen place when he goes to Manila because he got curious about the ramen craze here. So, off we took the lovebirds to Ramen Kuroda in Aguirre, BF Homes.

I was the one who picked the place because I haven’t been to Aguirre Avenue that’s fast-becoming a popular destination for foodies. And since we would be picking them up at SM Sucat, the proximity of the two places was just perfect. We were also fortunate that when we arrived at Ramen Kuroda, the place was only starting to get packed. We were able to get a table in a jiffy. We availed of their ramen sets and it was the best decision, ever. Their ramen sets were so sulit (worth the money)! We easily got stuffed. And delightfully so because the food was good!

Additional Credit Limit from Citibank

Just the other day, I received an email from Citibank informing me that my credit limit has been increased once again. From P55,000, it’s now P80,000. Again, I didn’t ask for it, they just willingly gave it to me like in my previous line increase. Was it because I’m a responsible cardholder now? Yes, probably. Or maybe, they just want to lure me into spending more. Well, good luck to them because that won’t happen!

Ever since I became credit card debt-free, I’ve been paying my credit card dues in full. After learning the hard way how credit card companies make money, I started to take my credit card spending seriously. I want to give them as little profit as possible by being a responsible cardholder now.
