Weekend Story: A Mix of Good and Bad Things

Last weekend was a mix of good and bad things for the hubby and me. We actually had a long weekend as we both went on leave on Friday to renew my driver’s license and to have more free time as it was #PippoDay (a.k.a. our angel son’s 4th birth and death anniversary) last September 28th.

We normally visit a new church (not literally new but something we haven’t visited before) during this time but this year was an exemption. We just visited his niche, lighted a candle, and said a prayer. You live in our hearts, son. We’ll see each other again someday. Okay, before I become too emotional here, let me tell you about the rest of our weekend which can be described as a mix of good and bad things.

Our S&R Members’ Treat Experience

I remember some two or three years ago, the hubby and I went to S&R Baclaran during the last day of its member’s treat and we were momentarily shocked at the huge crowd of people in a panic buying mode there. Last Friday afternoon, after going to LTO, we decided to check out the same S&R branch and we were again shocked to see the throng of people waiting to get inside the warehouse. It was the first day of their 3-day sale. As in, super haba talaga ng pila tapos tirik na tirik pa yung araw!

We immediately hit the road and drove to S&R Imus, baka kako dun less ang tao. We got lucky because there was no queue outside. We decided to have lunch first before shopping. Ayun, mga more or less an hour din pumila si hubby bago kami nakabili ng food.

We saw a lot of many good deals like those buy 1, take 1 bath towels, bedsheets, lunch bags, dry irons, whistling tea kettles, different brands of cookwares, dinnerwares, mason jars, ice cube trays, etc. It was very tempting to overspend and swipe my credit card to my heart’s content. The hubby, for instance, opted to buy Christmas presents for his staff right there and then. As for me, I went a bit over my budget by getting mostly food items (which I then shared with both families…para everybody happy!) so I would need to do some offsetting soon. Haha.

Here are some of the good deals we took home:

bath towels SnR
buy 1 take 1 at PHP899.95 (for a set of 2)

Danish cookies
buy 1, take 1 at PHP149.95

pringles on sale
sold by 2’s at PHP154.95

citrus fruit drops
buy 2, take 1 at P89.95 each

fruitamin drinkbuy 1, take 1 at PHP149.95 (for a pack of 6)

Spam
PHP99.95 each from PHP132.95

ariel
8.7 kg worth of Ariel powder, PHP935.95 (discounted by PHP50 only)

The rest of our haul was already bought at regular prices. The line to the cashier was incredibly long but it was tolerable for us. What we did was we joined the queue already in the middle of our shopping and we alternated in manning our cart and in roaming around to check out the goods on the shelves (and on the floor).

When we left the warehouse, there was a long queue outside (must be employees who went straight to S&R from work) waiting to get in. I wished them good luck in my head as we walked towards the parking lot.

Death of a Family Friend

We received the sad news on Friday morning via Viber while inside LTO — my superfriend Nice’s father died from cardiac arrest. It was an untimely death. Tito Nick was only in his 60s. The hubby and I, along with our good friend Carmela, went to his wake at the chapel of Providence Memorial Park in DasmariΓ±as, Cavite on Saturday afternoon to pay our last respects.

I was quite close to Tito Nick as I would spend time with Nice working on school projects at their Cavite home back in our college days. He would always offer us food and drinks so we wouldn’t go hungry from studying for hours on end. He would talk to us about family, religion, politics, show biz, and Nice’s love life (which was a bit complicated then, oooopss sorry Superf!). He was a respectable and humorous man. I will never forget that he treated me like his own daughter. Thank you for everything and may your soul rest in peace, Tito Nick! πŸ™

Feast Day of St. Michael and the Archangels

By Saturday night, the hubby and I were already back in Manila. The next day was the feast day of St. Michael and the Archangels. While the hubby went biking in Mall of Asia, I helped my MIL in the kitchen. My only contribution to our lunch feast that day was the creamy tuna and pesto pasta. It wasn’t as creamy as I liked so I plan to improve on it one weekend.

We also had some ice cream: Arce Dairy’s avocado (my choice after tasting it at some event I attended) and Magnolia’s vanilla (FIL’s fave). Hehe.

My MIL didn’t really invited guests over. It was just one relative from my FIL’s side and us (Techos and Mabalays) who were in attendance. We also heard the 6PM mass at the church and spent the rest of the night preparing for the coming work week.

  1. Pippo is a really nice name. πŸ™‚

I heard about the S&R sale. As much as like discounts, I don’t have the patience to fall in line for hours.

    1. It is, thank you!

  2. Hay, Edel. That’s exactly why my mom and I stopped renewing our S&R membership. Stress lang din kasi kapag sale. We would go there primarily to hoard Listerine for Papa. Kaso lang from buy-one-take-one from years ago, parang naging 20% off na lang. Tapos OA pa lagi ang pila. Landers will be opening in Otis soon. Pero based from IG posts, kinda OA and stampede-levelz din daw ang sale sa QC! :p

    1. Ah, ganun ba. Oo sis, mag-open ang Landers Otis this Thursday, nabasa namin while passing through the area.

  3. Wala man si Pippo, may angel naman kayo :).

    Condolence sa friend mo.

S&R sale!!!

  4. Happy 4th year in heaven to your little angel. Someone up there is protecting and guiding you every step of the way πŸ™‚

Nakaka miss tuloy mag spam and egg at sinangag πŸ™‚

    1. My condolences din pala to your friend Edel. Nakakalungkot. For me naman ang dami kong kakilala na nagkakasakit, na-operahan at nagka-cancer. Sunud-sunod talaga.

      1. Thank you, Jackie! That’s why we need to show more love and compassion to people these days. And it should start with our family. πŸ™‚
