My New Asahi Convection Oven

I’ve always wanted to buy a new oven. I didn’t want to spend for it, though. So what I did was I sold my portable sewing machine and used the money from the sales to buy the oven.

My new oven is just a basic one. I bought it last Saturday from SM Appliance Makati. The brand is Asahi and I got it for only P2,525. It’s a convection oven with a capacity of 23L. It’s very ideal for newbie homebakers like me. It was actually this Asahi convection oven review that a blogger friend wrote that convinced me to choose this particular brand and model over the others in the market.

I kitchen-tested my new Asahi convection oven yesterday when I baked a giant brownie for my brother’s birthday celebration. It served as his birthday cake. I am happy to report that my first finished product was a success! My entire family loved it. I can’t wait to use my oven again this weekend in whipping up more yummy baked goodies. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks Leah! I used Betty Crocker’s brownie recipe with that. Sure, I have very good recipes on red velvet cake, pizza dough and banana cake. I’ll share when I get the time to bake them. πŸ™‚

  1. Meron pa keang ganito? Magkano na kaya sya ngaun? This is one of my wishlist last year kasi gusto ko matuto magbake eh hindi naman ako makabili ng malaking oven kasi nga mahal. Sana makabili na ko this year!

Hi ask ko.lang po…kc i purchased the same brand po…kso nung nagbake aq ng chocolate cake na ung recipr na grab ko sa youtube nagdeflate po ung cake…end product naging cakey brownie xa although still good…i bake po for 40mins sa 8×8 square pan q…at 150Β°C mud cake po xa dapat…at first half ng cooking nag rise po xa kso nung pahuli bumagsak po xa..bakit po kaya? thanks

    1. Hi Jie! If hindi ka nagkamali sa pagfollow ng amount ng ingredients, baka dahil sa ang baba ng temperature, usually pag cake ay 175 degrees Fahrenheit na kapag iconvert sa Celsius ay nagiging almost 250 degrees na. Baka kaya dahil doon?

      1. hello po…sa actual recipe po kc they use 8″ round pan, cook for 2hrs at 150Β°C…i ask them po what if i use 8×8 square pan? sbi nya masyado daw pong maliit ung pan q…try q daw pong ihalf ung recipe which i did..then ni-less ko din po ung baking time kc maliit nmn daw ung pan ko..kaso un nga po yung end product nagfall sa center…btw po if nagbe bake po kau san po dapat nakatapat ung selector knob dun po ba sa baba? 6 o’clock position? and pina follow nyo din po ba ung time at temp sa original recipe? kasi may mga nababasa aq na if convection oven dapat either i-less ang temp or ang time kc mabilis daw po maluto? thanks po…

        1. Waaah, ano kaya nangyari dun. I’m puzzled, too. Actually, based on my experience mas matagal maluto pag convection oven kaya need i-adjust ang cooking time ng konti. tatagalan mo sya ng konti. yes, 6 o’clock position para may init sa taas at baba at may air na umiikot. πŸ™‚

    1. Yung heat selector ay posisyon ng apoy. I always choose the one with the two flames, ibig sabihin nun magkakaroon ng apoy sa taas at baba ng oven tapos may mainit na hangin na umiikot. Yan daw yung convection, equal distribution of heat. πŸ™‚

  6. Plano ko din pong bumili nyan kaso I was wondering kung pwede po bang magbake ng cake sa convenction oven. Marami kasi akong nabasa na hindi sya advisable for baking cakes :'( meron po bang option yang oven na ioff yung fan? Really need your advice po. Thanks and God bless πŸ™‚

    1. Yes, I’ve baked several cakes na using it. Okay naman kinalabasan. May option to turn off the fan but you know, it’s the fan that distributes heat for even cooking. πŸ™‚

  7. gudeve po…ganan dn po oven…as i observed po sobrang taas po ng temperature pg finollow ung nsa recipe mas madali po masunog panu po b gmitin para nd nasusunog…minsan ksi sunog na ung ibabae pero nd p xa luto..sa cakes po sinasavi ko..tnxs po..nid your help..

    1. Yung temp sa Asahi convection oven ay nasa Celsius (250C max nya). If ang nakalagay sa recipe ay Fahrenheit, i-divide mo lang into 2. Like if 350F, gawin mong 175 sa oven na ito. So far, okay naman ang mga cakes na ginawa ko using this oven. πŸ™‚

    1. Ilipat nyo po yung heat selector, doon sa isa lng yung apoy, kasi ang alam ko yung may dalawang apoy –6 oclock position– lang ang may fan sa lahat ng yun.

    1. Try nyo po kaya ilagay doon sa pinakamababang tray. Medyo hindi ko na rin alam ano gagawin dyan, hehe. Kakaiba. Yung sa akin naman, hindi ako nakaencounter ng ganyan na madali masunog. Cake po ba or ibang pastry?

    1. Sorry, I don’t know, I haven’t checked the other sizes. I also don’t know if it’s better than Imarflex as I haven’t bought an Imarflex oven before.

    1. When I roast chicken, I set the temp at 250 degree celsius, 30 minutes per side (top and bottom). Hope that helps! πŸ™‚

  10. Hi! Naregaluhan ako ng same model. I was so excited to use it so i tried making brownies. But, it was a total fail. Followed d instruction except for the time. Iniklian ko pa nga pero nasunog ung ibabaw at hilaw ung loob. Anyare? Hope u can help me πŸ™ anu dapat ko gawin πŸ™

  11. Hi! Iwanna know if your oven still performs well? No problems encountered, esp it’s been three years. I’m planning to buy a convection oven and I’m considering this model and brand. Thanks!

    1. Yes, so far, after three years, the oven is still working perfectly. There’s longer cooking time because it’s a convection oven but it’s a minor issue that’s very manageable. I like that it has transparent door which allows me to check easily the doneness of whatever it is I’m baking.

    1. Minsan minsan ko lang kasi ginagamit kaya hindi ko namamalayan yung power consumption. Hindi rin naman tumaas ng husto yung bill namin sa kuryente kaya I think hindi naman ganun kalakas. πŸ™‚

    1. Yes, kasya whole chicken. Yung naikot yung chicken di ko pa na-try, nilalagay ko lang sa pyrex na rectangular yung chicken namin.Even naman ang luto, 250% C and 30 minutes per side. πŸ™‚

  14. Bat ganun yung asahi oven ko. When I use it for baking crinkles and use the 6 oclock selection at 175 deg Celcius.. hindi nagtturn orange yun rod ng oven pero d masyado mainit. Kaya it turns out napapahaba un baking time kk.

    1. Napansin ko rin na mas mahaba ang cooking time. Kaya tinataasan ko ng bahagya ang temp. For example, ang 175 ginagawa kong 200. πŸ™‚

  15. Hello po, ask ko lng, for roast chicken, ang ginagawa nyo po ba is 30 minutes yung heat sa baba then another 30 minutes sa taas? Or 30 minutes both up and down then manually nyo lang po sya iniikot para mgeven? Hehe first timer po here. Just bought mine yesterday. Thank you πŸ™‚

    1. Naka convection mode po (6 o’clock position) then 30-40 minutes per side. Hindi ko po ginagamit yung parang metal stick. As in nakalagay lang sa oven dish yung chicken ko. πŸ™‚

  16. Tanong ko lang po if normal lang sa asahi oven na patay sindi ang FAN sa loob while baking at nakaset sa 6 oclock position ang selector. Naka”on” siya for 20 seconds then off ulit then “on” na naman.

      1. Thank you for replying to me. Pwede po bang pa-explain nung selector please? Yung button sa gitna. Yung may logo ng apoy. Ano po ibig sabihin ng empty box logo sa left? meron din box na may arrow sa loob. meron din ung merong katabi na fan tapos walang arrow sa baba, pero merong arrow sa taas at roaster sa gitna (Right button) tapos meron din po may arrow sa taas at baba, with roaster sa gitna, may katabing fan (Bottom selector) Salamat po.

        1. Yung heat selector po ay yung posisyon/labasan ng apoy. Yung usually ginagamit ko po dyan ay yung sa 6’oclock position kasi sya yung may dalawang apoy at sya lang ang may fan sa lahat ng yun which means “even” ang cooking, essential for baking.

  18. hello na-try nyo na po bang gumawa ng buko tart or egg pie sa oven na to? gumawa kasi ako nagtaka ako sa crust nagmukhang undercooked puto, it’s too soft and it’s moist eh dapat pag pie crust matigas. ano po bang heating selector ginagamit nyo pag gagawa ng pie crust? lower heating element only o upper & lower heating element with fan?

    1. Upper & lower heating element with fan ako lagi. Pero never pa ako naka-try magluto ng pie, usually brownies, cookies, muffins, and cakes pa lang and so far, puro okay naman ang outcomes, longer cooking time lang talaga compared sa traditional oven.

    And kung 2 layers din po ba sya? Para po sana 2 tray ng cupcakes yung ilalagay ko.

    1. Isang tray ng 6 pcs. cupcakes po ang kasya, para maging 12 pcs. ile-layer nyo po sya, dalawang tig 6 cupcakes.

  20. Are you still using this oven until now, its been 6 years? I am a newbie in baking as in nag-aaral plang ng kung ano anu, is this oven okay for a beginner like me?
