From Baking to Biking

Last Tuesday, which was a special non-working day for Manila-based workers like me, I engaged in two activities that allowed me to think, move, sweat, be patient and have fun all at the same time. I’m talking about baking and biking. Wow, those two rhyme beautifully, huh!

In the morning, together with my ever-dependable husband, I replenished my baking supplies over at Makati Supermart – Alabang where I found out prices are somehow lower than at SM Supermarkets. Don’t just take my word for it, try shopping there some time and see for yourself.

Baking with Edel: Choco Banana Muffins

This is probably the easiest baking recipe I’ve found online. I said “easiest” because I was able to memorize the very few ingredients and simple baking instructions while making ’em muffins. First time to happen to me so I was quite amazed. You, too, can bake this in your home kitchen!

Never Afraid to Cook

I’ve always loved to cook. I’m not a chef, though. I’m just your ordinary working wife who cooks for her husband during weekends. I say only during weekends because we get free meals on weekdays courtesy of my MIL. (But that’s another story for a different time.) The only time I don’t get to cook for my husband is when I’m too lazy to whip up anything edible and just resort to eating out or delivery (my treat, of course!).

I learned how to cook from my mom who’s very good in the kitchen. Actually, it was she who taught me not to be afraid when cooking. I remember she once told me when a dish you cook turns out bad, you just charge it to experience. You can always cook the same dish again with good (or better) results, anyway. So far, majority of the dishes I’ve cooked have been well-received. And I’m proud of myself for it.

I finally found the time to continue reading this book about shopping. While it focuses mainly on the sellers’ perspective, I still picked up a lot on what motivates people to shop and what gravitates us to the goods sold in stores. Somehow, it made me feel good about the shopping fast I’m doing. Haha.

Emergency Fund: What, Why, and Where

Emergency fund is money set aside for use in cases when you suddenly have to spend on something very important or urgent. It could be anything from job loss, sickness, and unforeseen expense. Actually, you can recognize it easily when you experience it.

Emergency fund, or funds for that matter, should be accessible any time the need for it arises. Personally, I had been aware of the concept of emergency fund during my high school years and I got to build up my own only when I got my first job. I didn’t take it too seriously then. As long as I had some money in my savings account, I thought I was okay.

Our Banker

Remember the last graduate in our family? It didn’t take long before she landed her first job. Actually, she got accepted as teller at a local bank even before graduation day. Her formal training started just yesterday and soon, she’ll start working at her assigned branch. I’m just so so proud of my sister Jodie!

I can only wish her success as she starts her own career in the banking industry. It’s not gonna be a joy ride, for sure. There would be hard times, but I believe in her, I know she’s a toughie despite her small body frame. I’m very excited over this new chapter in her young life. So promising, so full of hope. We now have a banker in the family. Wohooo!
