A Shopping Fast

I started 2014 without shopping and have continued doing so until now. Well, except for the Asahi convection oven that I bought last Saturday which was actually a product of a trade-in. (The money I used for it came from the sales of the portable sewing machine I had sold with the help of my superfriend Nice.) This only means I’m on a sort of shopping fast. You know, instead of skipping food, I’m skipping shopping.

With the kind of discipline and motivation I have right now when it comes to this self-imposed shopping ban, I think I can make a shopping fast possible this year. (I thought if I wanna embrace minimalism someday, I better start one baby step at a time, one activity that promotes minimalism at a time.) So I decided to make it official today. I need to set some rules, though. And so far, here are what I’ve thought of:

My New Asahi Convection Oven

I’ve always wanted to buy a new oven. I didn’t want to spend for it, though. So what I did was I sold my portable sewing machine and used the money from the sales to buy the oven.

My new oven is just a basic one. I bought it last Saturday from SM Appliance Makati. The brand is Asahi and I got it for only P2,525. It’s a convection oven with a capacity of 23L. It’s very ideal for newbie homebakers like me. It was actually this Asahi convection oven review that a blogger friend wrote that convinced me to choose this particular brand and model over the others in the market.

Cooking with Edel: Sauteed Tomatoes with Egg

Sauteed tomatoes with egg was one of my comfort food while growing up in the province of Nueva Ecija. It still is one of my comfort food today. While you can eat it as is, I normally pair this with fried fish (galunggong or GG is the best!) or pork. The more garlic, onions and fresh tomatoes in it, the better.

This is one easy peasy recipe that I’m sure you can whip up at home:

On Wedding Anniversaries

Next month, the hubby and I will already be celebrating our second wedding anniversary. Oh, how time flies! I can still vividly remember the time when he proposed to me (in the most lousy and uncreative way ever, haha), when we were taking care of the wedding preparations, the wedding day itself, our honeymoon, our first few weeks as a married couple and so much more.

Why are wedding anniversaries celebrated, anyway? Of course, it’s a milestone for married couples. But more than being a milestone, for me it’s a sort of renewal of your marriage vows and affirmation of your love and commitment to each other. Wedding anniversaries need not be lavish or anything. It can always be celebrated quietly and modestly. The most important thing of all is you and your spouse know and recognize the real meaning behind it.

Short Patience or Long Patience?

I think I can have both. My patience is somehow stretchable depending on the situation I’m in or the entities involved. You could see me waiting patiently in one corner and you could see me getting anxious about something. Indeed, patience is a virtue that many people (myself included) can’t handle well at all times.

I have short patience when it comes to myself, activities, tasks and money-related issues. For instance, I can be very agitated about my pending tasks that I really have to finish doing them before the deadline so I could be at peace. On the other hand, I have long patience when it comes to people. Even if you are rude, inconsiderate, or worse, have attitude problem, I will try my best to understand you and deal with you with an open mind. Yes, no judgment. We could even be friends.

Buffet Restaurants in Tagaytay

So far, I only know of three restaurants that offer buffet in Tagaytay. They are Bag of Beans, Sonya’s Garden and Celina’s Cafe and Restaurant. Among them, I’ve only tried the last one. Theirs is a lunch buffet price at P325 per head plus 3% city government tax. From what I gathered online, Bag of Beans offer brunch buffet during weekends at P495 nett per pax while Sonya’s Garden serves set menu (eat-all-you-can) for lunch and dinner at P683 per person.

The lunch buffet at Celina’s Cafe and Restaurant, based from my dining experience last Saturday, was quite good and affordable, too. The hubby and I, along with my parents, enjoyed simple, home-cooked meals in a cozy setting with a nice view of the famous Taal Lake. The building where the buffet was served and the restroom that caters to the guests need some serious maintenance, though.
