Weight Loss Update: 6 lbs. Lighter

So, from 136 lbs. (heaviest recorded weight last month), I’m now down to 130 lbs. Losing six pounds in one month is no joke. I worked hard for it and I’m glad my efforts paid off. I ate healthier food, moved a lot and did zumba twice a week. I think I’m getting there. My ideal weight of 120 lbs., that is.

Last Friday, I attended a knowledge sharing exercise at work. It was organized by our HR department. They invited Slimmers World people to engage us in a 2-hour health and fitness seminar. The speaker (a health buff guy with strong, big muscles all over his body) taught us a lot about how our body works to get fit: anatomy of the muscles, metabolism, immune system, energy, proper exercise and all. He also shared some exercises that we can easily do in the office, which I think are really easy to perform. All we need to have is discipline to make sure we do it on a regular basis to get fab results. Haha.

My Form of Exercise

Losing weight is hard, getting fit and healthy is harder. But as they say, if there’s a will, there’s a way. Currently, I’m still 14 lbs. away to my ideal weight but I know I’ll get there soon. How soon? I don’t know. Haha.

I’ve been doing zumba with my officemates for several weeks now and so far, I’ve been enjoying it. I also want to do yoga (and get myself one of those sturdy yoga bolsters!) but I think I’m not yet prepared to do the various poses and I’m still lacking the discipline to do it on a regular basis.

Getting Fit with Zumba

Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness program developed in the 1990s. It combines Latin and international music for a more fun and interesting workout. A lot of people swears by its effectiveness in losing weight and getting those shapely curves.

I first tried zumba during a fitness event I attended before. A friend reintroduced me to this unique form of exercise a few weeks go and when I tried it again, I got hooked. Actually, I just wanted to lose weight and harness my dancing skills (or lack thereof). Haha.

Health Matters

I just found out that a friend has to undergo surgery because of a myoma or fibroid that grew in her uterus. Hearing news like this scares the hell out of me. I used to be afraid of doctors and going to hospitals but I have overcome the fear over time. But still, I can’t help but be paranoid about my own health when I hear other people sharing something negative about their health.

I am particularly concerned with my reproductive health. When I landed my first job, I started scheduling a trip to the OB-Gyne for my annual check-up. This includes breast exam, pap smear and vaginal ultrasound to identify any growths or abnormalities in my reproductive system. So far, the only thing they have spotted inside my uterus was a growing fetus and that surely made me very happy (yes, despite the saddening outcome in the end).

Back to the Gym

After years of not going to the gym, I’m now into it again. I’m trying to lose more weight, so why not? Thrice a week ain’t bad. I mean, instead of being a couch potato after going home from work, I might as well burn some calories on the treadmill. The fact that the use of the gym is free (courtesy of the office) makes it all the more enjoyable and fuss-free.

As much as I want to spend two hours in the gym, I can only stay for an hour or when I get lucky, an hour and a half. I usually get to the gym at 6pm and the people there starts to leave just when I’m about to lift weights at 7:30. I don’t think I can work out alone, you know, what with the ghost stories I heard about the building, particularly the 4th floor where the gym is. One story even tells of a trade printer in an office running unmanned. Scary!
