Weekend Story: Lent Observance + Lots of Family Bonding

How was your long weekend, friends? I hope you all had a wonderful time. The recent Holy Week gave the hubby and I ample time to spend with our family so that was exactly what we did. Of course, there were the usual moments of reflection and the observance of some religious traditions. All these and more have made our long weekend fun and meaningful at the same time.

Please be warned that this post contains more photos than usual.

On Maundy Thursday, the hubby and I, along with Mame, did the traditional Visita Iglesia. As what has been our practice, we visited seven churches (two stations per church to complete the 14 Stations of the Cross). We joined the huge crowd composed of people from all walks of life in getting from one church to another. We started early at around 8:30AM. The weather was a bit cooperative that time (read: shady with some short bursts of sunshine) so we enjoyed the long walk.

Weekend Story: Block Party and Palm Sunday Anticipated Mass in Alabang

When I got an invite to the Block Party (a weekend of art, food, and music at the Makiling Park of Ayala Alabang Village), I knew instantly our weekend will be relaxing and fun. It was a two-day event (March 28th and 29th) but we only went on the first day which was last Saturday. Since the hubby is currently enjoying his sem break from grad school, we drove to Bacoor on Friday night and went to the Block Party from our house the next day.

We got to the venue at past 12:00 p.m., just in time for lunch. It was a beautiful day but the sun was scorching hot. Good thing there were tables and chairs set up under the cool shades of trees. There were also mats with blankets and throw pillows scattered all over the place inviting people to lie down and relax. Cool music was also being played which added to the festive vibe in the park.

Weekend Story: Stella Wood Fired Bistro, Midnight Mercato, Willow Jewelry, and Two Lady House Guests

We were supposed to have three lady house guests last weekend but only two (Ivy and Rona) showed up. The other one (Edlyn) got stuck with parental duties to two daughters who are big fans of One Direction. (If you know about the big concert at Mall of Asia complex last Saturday night, then you’d know what I mean by that.) Family should always come first and we fully understand that.

Before we went home in Bacoor, the hubby and I, along with Ivy whom we picked up from a 7-Eleven near her house, had dinner at Stella Wood Fired Bistro in BGC. It was a fantastic dinner of whole roasted chicken, Spanish and chorizo rice, some roasted pumpkin, and special lasagna.

Weekend Story: Our Bohol Trip

Note: This is an “extended” weekend story covering our short Bohol trip last March 14 to 19, 2015.

With the untimely death of the hubby’s grandmother, a trip to Bohol was imperative. The hubby and I went on leave for a few days so we could attend Lola Betty’s funeral service. We left for Tagbilaran City on Saturday and went back to Manila just yesterday.

Weekend Story: Stuck in Manila and We Were Okay with It

Last weekend was spent entirely in Manila. The hubby and I were supposed to go home in Bacoor but because the delivery of the hubby’s package from Lazada got delayed in transit due to some routing issue, we had to change our plan. Instead of arriving last Saturday, it arrived yesterday. Staying in Manila on a weekend wasn’t that bad. We just made the most out of it.

On Saturday, the hubby went to school while I enjoyed some “me” time at my in-laws’ place. In the afternoon, I spent some quality time with my family at my siblings’ place. When dinnertime came, I met up with the hubby, my SIL Albie, and our friend Carmela at Robinsons Ermita. The hubby treated us to dinner at Yakimix.

Weekend Story: Ordinary but Never Boring

With the hubby attending classes at graduate school on Saturdays, I get to have more time in my hands to sleep longer and bond more with family members who live just across the street. It’s fun and I’m enjoying every minute of it. This temporary setup makes me happy.

Like last Saturday, for instance. I woke up late again and after having breakfast, I started reading this book titled “The Happiness Project” by Gretchen Rubin. (I have the e-book version, though.) It’s a nice book where the author herself talks about her own happiness project. She’s already happy but she wants to be “happier.” At first I thought she was weird, wanting to be happier and all, but as I continued reading, I found myself relating to her stories more and more. I like that she’s a smart lady and the book is peppered with a lot of facts based from various studies as well as quotes from the authors and philosophers that she looks up to.
