Meet my Mame

Forgive my sentimentality today. It’s because my mother’s birthday is fast-approaching. My mother’s name is Amparo but her friends call her Ampy. She’s the most loving and lovable person on earth for me. I love her to the moon and back. And I know she feels the same for me. She’ll be a year older on the 30th.

My mother and I share a special bond. It must be because I was an only child for a long time (my brother Danison was born when I was six years old) and my parents’ attention was all on me then. I have always been the favorite child. Or so I assume. Just kidding. Haha.

Some call their mothers “mom” or “mommy” or “mama”, while others “nanay” or “inay” or “nanang.” My three siblings and I call our mother “mame.” It has a distinct sound which makes it unique. We also think it fits her to a T.

If I were to give her a birthday gift (for sure she’ll ask for one!), I think a ring would be nice. Mame loves jewelry, both costume and genuine. I once chanced upon a site where you could design your own mothers rings. Cool, ayt? Since I’m allowed to shop for birthday gifts (my shopping fast challenge has well thought-out guidelines!), I think I might just go for it. :)
