Last weekend was a bit slow and quiet. The hubby and I, along with my SIL Albie, were just at home on Saturday doing the usual chores. On Sunday, I joined the hubby to his car club’s Christmas party held at Santolan Town Plaza in San Juan. It’s a nice-looking mixed-use development by Rockwell. The venue of the party was on the 11th floor. We had fun catching up with his car club friends.
Weekend Story: Adjustment Period (Bacoor for Good) + Our New Neighbors!
Last long weekend went by swiftly. It felt like I just blinked and the weekend was over just like that. A lot of things happened, actually. On Thursday, the hubby and I took a leave from work so we could help in packing the rest of the stuff at my PILs’ place that needed to be packed and moved. But before we could fill a balikbayan box with more stuff, fate had something in store for us. We had to accompany my two siblings to the bank because their home loan has finally been approved and contracts had to be signed. My side of the family is also staying in Bacoor for good. We are buying the house next to ours in Bacoor. As in the next door house. Ang saya-saya lang! Magkapitbahay na kami! We all prayed for this and our collective prayers were granted so thank you very much, Lord! 🙂

Weekend Story: Moving Tasks + Hospital Duties
Last weekend was spent packing and moving stuff. The hubby and I, along with my side of the family, also got busy attending to Mame’s needs in the hospital. She had a bad fall while taking a bath on Thursday morning and complained of intense back pain after, so we rushed her to the ER of Manila Doctors Hospital at Ermita. Apparently, she had a spine compression fracture and the ER doctor recommended that she get admitted in the hospital for pain management. She had an option for a surgery (kyphoplasty) for faster recovery but she declined (we supported her decision) upon knowing that the compression would heal on its own naman. She stayed in the hospital until Sunday afternoon and was prescribed more pain meds. She’s fine now and the pain is quite tolerable already but she’ll be back in the hospital for follow up check-ups next week.

Keto in Manila: A Dieter’s Journey (Plus My Other Weight Loss Secrets Revealed!)
The ketogenic or keto diet is not a new diet. Just a bit of googling will tell you it became popular in the 1920’s as a therapy for epilepsy. Recently, a lot of doctors have been advising parents to put their children afflicted with ADHD, autism, and other neurologic disorders on the keto diet to better manage their condition. Apparently, this high-fat, moderate protein, and low carb diet results in ketosis, a natural metabolic state where the body uses ketones that burn fat for energy, instead of glucose (from the carbs that we eat).
I’ve tried many diets in the past (the one I documented the most on this blog was the GM diet) and although they made me lose weight, it didn’t take long for me to gain them back. That’s why I was initially skeptical about the keto diet. But because I gained 20 unwanted pounds in under six months this year, I sort of got desperate. I wanted to go back to a weight I’m comfortable with and confident of. I don’t have hypertension, diabetes, and other diseases, and if my last blood test results would be the deciding factor, I figured I was in good condition to try the diet. And so I did.

Weekend Story: Preparing for the Big Move
So, the time has come that we have to stay in Bacoor for good. The property where my PILs work as caretakers (and where they are currently residing and the hubby and I staying in during weekdays) has already been sold. Last weekend, we have started packing and moving stuff to Bacoor. We will be doing the same in the coming weekends because we only have until the end of the November in Manila.

Weekend Story: Self-Service Laundry and Outlet Shopping (Silang, Cavite and Marikina City)
Last weekend was quite busy. We were able to go home in Bacoor as early as Friday night, though. On Saturday, I gave my husband a break in doing the laundry (read: gender equality) by asking him to go to this self-service laundry shop near our place. You know, those big washers that you just put your clothes and some liquid detergent and fabric conditioner inside before it does its cycle: wash, rinse, and spin. Then you transfer it to the dryer for drying. Et voila, newly-laundered clothes after an hour or so!
In the afternoon, we went to this new outlet shopping place in Silang, Cavite. This was followed by a visit to yet another outlet shopping place in Marikina. Wala naman kami binili, trip lang ni hubby mamasyal, hahaha.
