Road to Financial Freedom: A Constant Practice in Patience

When I’m committed to doing something, I can get very impatient. In my quest for financial freedom, for instance, I can’t wait to achieve my financial goals. I think I’ve had an overdose of personal finance articles and blogs online because I suddenly had this urge to open new investment accounts right away. But of course, it’s impossible for me to do so due to insufficient funds at present.

Talking to self: Slow down, Edel! Breathe. Inhale, exhale. You can’t do everything at the same time. You have to wait for your money to arrive, unless you can make money appear by magic. Remember, patience is key here. And a lot of thinking and re-thinking. You don’t just invest your money in one instrument just because you learned from somebody it’s a good investment. You have to do your own research, decide based on your needs and future plans, prepare your money and invest at the right time.

Weekend Story: Surprise Visit, Food Trip, and Lotsa Talking

Last weekend was terrific and extra fun. My mom and my cousin Ate Hazel joined the hubby and me for the weekend at our Bacoor home. We did a lot of eating and talking. We also paid a surprise visit to an uncle whom we hadn’t seen for a long time.

I think the hubby and I are having a great time welcoming guests to our humble abode. Financially speaking, it translates to additional expenses, but the happy memories we create with these wonderful people are definitely worth it. Not only do we get to strengthen our ties with our family and friends, but we also learn and experience new things with them that make us appreciate our married life better. It’s actually a win-win situation for us.

My First Selling Transaction in the Stock Market

While some investors wait for a gain of as high as 15% to 30% before selling a stock, I thought I’d settle for a lower percentage in my first selling transaction in the stock market. (It was my first, kaya medyo kinikilig at kinakabahan ako habang pinoprocess ko yan, hehe!) I believe that as long as it’s higher than the inflation rate in the country which is at around 4% to 5% annually, it’s a wise move. Okay, maybe next time, I’ll go for 10% or higher. Haha.

On August 27th (just the other day!), I sold my 40 shares of First Philippine Holdings Corp. (FPH) at P81. I kept them for a total of 36 days before selling. I bought them at an average price of P73.89 per share. I’m using “average price” here because I bought the shares in staggered amount at different prices. For this transaction, my net gain/profit was P222.47 or 7.47% as indicated in the stock computation tool I downloaded from SmartPinoyInvestor.com. A small amount, yes, but it was certainly very meaningful to me. And hindi ko rin naman basta mapupulot ang halagang ‘yan, diba?

Weekend Story: Anticipated Mass, North Park, Starbucks Card and Lotsa Sleep

We had another house guest last long weekend. It’s none other than my one and only brother Danison. I love it when I get to enjoy some quality time with my family. So I really made sure my brother and I would have a great time together. And we did! But of course, I had to make sure also the hubby was well-taken care of. All in all, I had two boys to take care of and I think I did just fine.

On our way home in Bacoor on Saturday afternoon (after Edwin’s classes have finished), we went to the Shrine of Jesus, The Way, The Truth and The Life located at Mall of Asia complex for the 5:30p.m. anticipated mass. It was my first time there and I liked how spacious and solemn the place was.

Senior Citizen Benefits

My mother turned 60 years old last July 30th. A few days after her birthday, we gathered all her important documents (birth certificate and valid ID are a must!) and she applied for a senior citizen card. With the help of our kind barangay chairman who filed her application on her behalf, she was able to get her card in just two days!

Mame was very ecstatic upon receiving her senior citizen ID. I accompanied her to SM Manila to have it laminated. Then, she used it right away when we had lunch at some fast food resto there. Haha. Talk about being excited!
