Shopping Ban

With our 52-week money challenge still on, I can’t get myself to shop. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, like last Monday night when I accompanied my mom and my two sisters at SM Manila to buy some stuff, I always get reminded of the challenge and my urge to shop would suddenly stop. I think it’s a good thing because it means I’m focused and determined to finish the challenge.

I hope to continue this self-imposed shopping ban for as long as I can. It helps that I don’t obsess over some material thing at present. And that I still have several new clothes, two new pairs of shoes and some new accessories waiting to be used. I think it’s about time I wear them all and pretend I just shopped for them last night. Haha.

Quick Binondo Trip

Last Sunday afternoon, the hubby and I made a quick trip to Binondo to use our dining vouchers for The Original Salido Restaurant on Ongpin St. It was supposed to be a merienda but since we intentionally didn’t have lunch for the unlimited dimsum waiting for us, it turned out to be a late, long lunch.

For P299 per person, we had an eat-all-you-can dimsum at the restaurant. There were nine kinds on offer and we tried them all. Haha. Among them, my favorites were the hakaw, siomai and bean curd roll. We also ordered Yang Chow rice to go with everything. Our dining vouchers also included drinks and desserts. We got red iced tea for our drinks and had mango sago and almond lychee to cap off our dimsum-loaded lunch.

2014 Hair Trends for Women

For 2014, they say short hair is “in” for women. While I prefer my hair to be long (and always tied up in a ponytail), I also wear short hair from time to time. I remember two summers ago, I was sporting a pixie cut and loved it. It was sort of liberating for me because it’s the kind of hairdo that you can call “wash and wear.”

If I’m gonna cut my hair short, that hairdo of Paris Hilton on the photo above is my peg. But right now, I’m still undecided. I’ll surely miss my long albeit damaged hair. I’ll probably just trim it. Or I might just get some pretty hairpiece online that will match my oval-shaped face. Haha. 🙂

On Helping a Friend

When you have a friend in need, it just feels right to help him. When you have a friend in need, you just help right away. You don’t ask for something in return, you just help with good intentions in mind. This is especially true when you have the resources that could lighten your friend’s burden. It could be time, energy or money. It could even be just emotional support. The right thing to do is always to help.

Helping a suffering friend stops only when you have run out of resources to offer him. It also stops when he doesn’t listen to your advice anymore and starts to solve his problem his way. It doesn’t have to continue when he makes you feel more involved with the problem than he is. It doesn’t have to continue when you have started to make it your life mission to get him out of trouble. Furthermore, the helping should end when it starts to get in the way of your priorities in life: family, career, daily activities, etc.

Quiet Neighborhood

At the village where we live in Bacoor, the neighborhood is generally quiet. During weekends, we wake up a bit late and spend the morning doing household chores. We then have our breakfast and whatever goes after. Normally, I’d immediately prepare lunch after washing the dishes or delay doing so by doing other stuff.

One random Saturday, though, our car became a casualty of two kids riding a tiny sidecar. They were passing our side of the road when they accidentally hit the front of our car which resulted to a minor dent. Two Sundays ago, a neighbor’s pet dog got out of its cage and ran around the village barking non-stop. Good thing it didn’t bite anybody or it would have been a disaster. Which reminds me, the owner of that dog should visit this site for an electric dog fence. Or get a new cage. Haha.

Juicing with Edel: Celery, Cucumber, Ginger, Oranges and Honey

I’ve recently started juicing during weekends at home. The hubby was okay with it so I guess this will gonna be a normal thing for us. Fresh juices are healthy, more so if they are a mixture of fruits, veggies, herbs and spices. For our first homemade fresh juice, I used celery, cucumber, ginger, oranges and honey.

The good thing about making homemade fresh juices is that you know they’re clean and you can control or limit the amount of sugar you put into it. I decided to use honey because it’s healthier than white sugar. Instead of using ordinary glasses, I made use of my new mason jars (which I bought online from an Instagram seller) for aesthetic value. Haha.
