Getting Back into Reading

It’s been a while since I last read a good book. As much as I wanted to read, I couldn’t take my hands off work and other stuff that needed my immediate attention. I was sorting out my PC files this afternoon when I chanced upon this folder containing my old collection of e-books. (I had an older collection but it vanished along with my broken hard drive when typhoon Ondoy hit Manila two years ago.) I opened it and took notice of The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

As far as I remember, The Time Traveler’s Wife is a nice book and eventually it was adapted into film. It even starred my fave Hollywood actors Eric Bana and Rachelle McAdams. Unfortunately for me, I haven’t read the book nor watched the movie yet. But it’s never too late, right? I forwarded a copy of the book to my email after sending my sister a photo of St. Sebastian Church I took eons ago via email, too (for her homework on steel buildings). I planned to read a few pages this evening.

Why I Got Hooked on Amaya (The Epic Series)

GMA 7’s first epic series (epicserye) Amaya has been getting positive reviews lately so I decided to find out what the fuss was all about. I started by watching the first few episodes of Amaya via uploaded videos from Pinoy24.tv. Amaya, by the way, had its pilot episode last May 30 only. What can I say? I think Amaya has a good plot and an ensemble cast. I think I’m now hooked on it.

Amaya is said to be GMA 7’s biggest production ever. It is an original story by Suzette Doctolero. Directed by Mac Alejandre, Amaya is a historical fiction. It is a tale of a girl, born a princess but fate turns her into a slave, and later on becomes the most powerful woman of her time. She rises to save her people from the hands of a ruthless male ruler in Central Visayas during the pre-Spanish colonial period (early 1500s). Did you know the production is aided by the expertise of two respected UP historians to make sure everything is accurate and relevant to the depicted time? Yes, from the language spoken to the costumes worn by the actors and the props used on the set.

Movie Review: In the Name of Love

I’m a sucker for good Pinoy movies, the ones that are well-thought of, well-executed, and have ensemble cast. Most Star Cinema movies I have watched before belong to this class. While I don’t like it that most, if not all, of their films end on a happy note (the happily-ever-after kind), I still watch them because of three things: good story, intriguing trailer and smart pairing of lead characters.

I have recently watched their latest offering, In the Name of Love. It is starred by Aga Muchlach, Angel Locsin and Jake Cuenca. Intriguing trailer aside, I watched this film because I heard it took them one year to finish the movie. I thought it meant something good. Apparently, I was right. The movie was good and effective in unleashing a thousand emotions from the viewers (yours truly included). To say that I got teary-eyed several times is an understatement. I actually cried!

Pyromusical Event at Mall of Asia

We are supposed to see the 2nd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition at Mall of Asia (MOA) tonight but it seems I won’t be able to join anymore. I was told we have guests in the restaurant tonight and my services are needed. Money first before anything else. Haha.

Last year, I was able to watch the first pyromusical competition and the show was fascinating. I remember rooting for the UK team because their fireworks display were awesome to the highest level. As in. I loved their exhibition a lot I wished I had one of those steiner binoculars to be able to have a closer view of the dancing bright lights in the sky. MOA was jampacked with people then and we had quite a hard time going home because of the heavy traffic. I’m sure this year the situation hasn’t changed. But I can say it was very well worth our trip. It was my first time to see firework displays as spectacular as those.
