I Heart Tomatoes

I love tomato-based dishes. I eat everything with tomatoes in it, from the simple tomato soup and the plain spaghetti in tomato sauce to the more gourmet Callos and Osso Buco. I have some Dole tomato sauce in doy packs in the kitchen (it’s a new product I heard!) and I plan to use it soon. I want to cook some pasta with Hungarian sausages. Yum.

.

Did you know that cooked tomatoes have more lycopene than fresh ones? Cooked and processed tomatoes are usually sold canned and in doy packs like these tomato sauces from Dole. If you’re a tomato lover like me, you will agree that it’s always wise to stock up on these products so you can always have them when you want them.

Sleepy Head Me

Wanna know what I did this long weekend aside from eating? Well, I slept a lot! As in a looooooot. And it made me feel better. That’s why I heart long weekends. It allows me to do the things I love doing the most. Now I’m very much prepared for work tomorrow. It’s gonna be a busy week because we have several events to organize. I’m up for them all.

sleep

If there’s one thing I don’t lack in, it would be sleep. I get as much sleep as possible not only because it’s good for my health, but more importantly, because I love sleeping. Sleep and I are like best friends. We love each other’s company. We enjoy spending time together. I’m also glad that I don’t have insomnia, a kind of sleep disorder that afflicts people regardless of age, sex and nationality. Being an insomniac must be really hard and sad and frustrating.

Zinc Lozenges for Cold Remedy

I have a bad case of cold and my head is starting to spin again. I don’t want to take a leave from work because I feel that staying at home and doing nothing will just worsen my condition. It doesn’t help that it’s raining hard outside and network signals have suddenly disappeared. My phone’s battery is also acting up I think I’d need some portable phone batteries anytime soon. I was looking up cold remedies online a few minutes ago and came across zinc lozenges. I learned it’s a good cold remedy and it soothes sore throats as well.

If I get a headache this afternoon, I’ll take a paracetamol to combat the pain. I’ll also ask someone to get those zinc lozenges for me so I could be well fast. I really hate getting sick. Here’s some information about zinc lozenges I got from RealSimple.com:

For the Love of Fast Food

Whenever the fiancee and I hit the mall, we almost always choose to eat fast food. Some of our favorites are KFC, Wendy’s, McDonalds, Pao Tsin, Tokyo Tokyo and of course, the langhap-sarap goodness that is Jollibee. My love affair with fast food started in college. It was during my college years that my appetite for fast food had developed and grown to its present proportion. It also helped that I was once a fast food crew myself, juggling work and school to get college education and have a better life.

Back then, my meager college allowance was spent mostly on fast food. Why not if it was cheap, tasty and served fast to the hungry me? Funny but when I was a college student, I could see the fast food counter filled with smiling crew manning chunky POS hardware from a hundred steps away once I was inside the mall with my blockmates. I guess it was the very attitude of these people (who are actually working students!) and the mouth-watering food photos on display that never failed to convince me to dine in. I didn’t care if fast food were filled with empty calories or that they could make me fatter than ever, all I needed then was to fill my empty stomach and survive college life.

Four Down, Nineteen To Go

After a month of monitoring my food intake (and my weight on the scales, too), I am happy to announce that I lost 4 lbs. It’s not impressive I know, but it’s not bad, either. By doing this mini weight loss challenge, I have found out that I can be serious when it comes to testing my determination and discipline to achieve a certain goal.

Now that I’ve lost 4 lbs. already, I still have 19 more to shed off to achieve my ideal weight of 115 lbs. I know it’s not gonna come easy, but I’m giving it a try. Little achievements like this are a big deal to me. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. It makes me real happy. It’s akin to when you join in a golf tournament and end up winning golf trophies because you played great. Come to think of it, the rule of that sport can be applied to weight loss, too. The lesser tries you make to get that perfect shot, the better. The lesser time it takes for you to lose weight, the earlier you can face the world in a better shape and with a brighter perspective.

Saving for the Rainy Season

We’re right on the third quarter of the year and I just realized I have yet to meet half of my savings goal. Whatever happened to me? Where did my money go? Asking myself these questions has pointed me to some big purchases and financial transactions I made in the past months. Eventually it became clear to me. Aside from the new Longchamp bag, I spent most of my money paying for the tuition fees of my siblings, our home improvement projects, birthday celebrations of family members, and preparations for our upcoming trip abroad.

If there’s one thing I didn’t spend so much on, it would be healthcare. I’m thankful that my family, especially my parents, have not acquired any serious illnesses in the past months. I hope they continue to be in good health in the years to come. We all know how healthcare can cost a lot of money and in the case of serious health problems, can deplete the family’s savings and would even make you wish you had SSDI to depend on. I don’t think I’m financially prepared for that yet.
