Some Food and Dieting Thoughts

This year, I’ve been cooking less and less. There are several reasons for that. When at my in-laws’ place, my MIL reigns in the kitchen and because she’s a great cook, I’m more than willing to eat and enjoy whatever magic she whips up with her hands. When in our marital home in Bacoor, I usually stay late in bed and before I know it, it’s past lunch time and the hubby is screaming in hunger already (well, not really screaming but you get the point). On some weekends, also in Bacoor, I just get too lazy to cook that I would resort to take-out/delivery for us to survive a meal time.

When I started the Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet (CAD), I thought I’d be able to cook more. But sooner than later, I realized the diet wasn’t for me. Why? Because it seems I’m more of a moderator than an abstainer. (So yes, no more comprehensive review of CAD on this blog; consider this paragraph a brief review instead.) In fairness to this diet, I was able to lose 8 lbs. (from 144 to 136) in just a month and so far, I’ve been maintaining my new weight. You could say I was successful with the diet and that’s right. I just can’t commit to it for a long time. So, thank you very much CAD for giving me a good start in my weight loss journey but I’m moving on.

Our Eight O’Clock Habit

They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit. It’s been more than a month now when the hubby and I started jogging for 5km at exactly 8PM during weekdays. Since I clock out from work at 6PM and we normally have dinner at around seven, we went for 8PM and not an earlier time.

The week before APEC, we were able to jog for five days straight! Our plan is to jog M-W-F. We’d do more if our schedule and energy permit. Our fastest 5-km jog so far is 44 minutes. Still slow, but we’re trying to do better. We sometimes alternate between jogging and brisk walking for a more fun experience. There are times also when Mame or my brother joins us. I say the more, the merrier.

Weight Loss Update: 6 lbs. Lighter

So, from 136 lbs. (heaviest recorded weight last month), I’m now down to 130 lbs. Losing six pounds in one month is no joke. I worked hard for it and I’m glad my efforts paid off. I ate healthier food, moved a lot and did zumba twice a week. I think I’m getting there. My ideal weight of 120 lbs., that is.

Last Friday, I attended a knowledge sharing exercise at work. It was organized by our HR department. They invited Slimmers World people to engage us in a 2-hour health and fitness seminar. The speaker (a health buff guy with strong, big muscles all over his body) taught us a lot about how our body works to get fit: anatomy of the muscles, metabolism, immune system, energy, proper exercise and all. He also shared some exercises that we can easily do in the office, which I think are really easy to perform. All we need to have is discipline to make sure we do it on a regular basis to get fab results. Haha.

On a Diet, Seriously

I’ve realized weekends make me forget about dieting. You know, when I’m stuck at home and work is temporarily non-existent, all I wanna do is to cook, cook, cook and eat, eat, eat. It makes me forget that I’ve been meaning to lose my pre-pregnancy weight for months now.

To remind myself about losing weight, I made a monitoring sheet in an Excel file which I now update daily. Yes, daily. So I don’t forget. I stand on top of the weighing scale every weekday morning and get my weight. It’s my way of knowing if I gained or not. So smart, right? Haha.

How I Lose Weight

Losing weight is a choice, getting fat is optional. That has been my mantra when it comes to managing my weight. Recently, I have come to realize that getting to your ideal weight is a lifetime process. I gain weight and I lose it and the cycle goes on and on.

There is no such thing as the perfect diet or exercise plan. It’s our lifestyle and eating habits that determine how small or big we would be. How I lose weight is no secret. I just decrease my calorie intake and increase my physical activity. I don’t deprive myself of any food (though there was a time I gave up on pork and soda!), I just try to eat everything in moderation.

Two Pounds in One Week

As days go by, I have observed that losing weight becomes harder and harder. If before, I could lose two pounds overnight, now I can only do the same in a span of one week. It really seems that as we age, our metabolism slows down to a very depressing pace. And if you’re like me who live a sedentary life, the more you should expect it to happen naturally. What I do to maximize my weight loss is help my metabolism do its thing faster thru natural means such as drinking more water and adding more fiber in my diet.

this little surprise made my day!

You could imagine my happiness when I came home two days ago and found this package waiting for me. It’s C-Lium fibre and some A!Life products that help one’s posture and guess what, weight loss capabilities! It’s just what I need! As you know, I need all the help I can get to continue with my weight loss journey. It seems I don’t have to buy appetite suppressants yet. These should do for now and perhaps if they’re effective, I’ll stick to them for good. Haha.
