Whatta Saturday

I’m glad to have accomplished a lot last Saturday. It pays to wake up early. It pays more when you take your daily schedule seriously. As early as 6:00 a.m. Saturday, the boyfriend and I were already on the road and Cavite-bound with our backseat passengers: Dad, Mom and my sister N. We sent them to my parent’s place in Cavite. Dad and Mom had been with us here in Manila since end of February and it was time for them to go back to their permanent abode. My sister N, on the other hand, joined them to spend her semestral break there.

The trip was in great timing because the boyfriend and I were also attending a tourism seminar and food tasting at Republic of Cavite in Trece Martires City. The program there would start at 9:00 a.m. After arriving at our Cavite home and unloading the car trunk’s contents, we immediately left for our next activity for the day. We were the first participants to arrive in the venue. Cool. We killed time by taking photos of our surroundings. Soon after, my fellow bloggers started coming in.

Fear of the Unknown

I just sent a private email to an undisclosed recipient in the hope that by doing so, I’d be able to face my fear. Yes, I get to experience fear of the unknown occasionally. No matter how much I have prepared for something, no matter how much positive thinking I apply, I still get the ‘shivers’ each time I try to visualize the outcome of things. I always get scared to know the truth because most of the time, truth hurts.

No, this isn’t about my relationship with the boyfriend. We’re okay and happy together. This is about a decision I made last year that has not gotten results yet. I’m getting more and more nervous and anxious already. That’s why I mustered enough courage to do the right thing, and that was to get my message across. Hopefully, the unknown gets to have a face in the coming days. I am definitely looking forward to look it in the eye. By that time, I am certain I’ll get my much-needed peace of mind.

Earthquake and Tsunami Preparations

With the strong earthquake (8.9 magnitude) and tsunami that hit Japan yesterday (March 11), people all over the world have been worried at some point. These worries are much more intense in the neighboring countries such as Indonesia, China and the Philippines. Here in Manila, as I was glued to CNN yesterday, I couldn’t help but feel sad about the extensive devastation Japan is facing now. There has been no amount released yet, but I can assume it’s already in billions of dollars. Plus, the lives lost. This is a tough time in Japan and I hope they get through this ordeal bravely and efficiently. Unity among its people and the rest of the world is a must now to restore its affected communities back to working order as soon as possible.

Should it happened to our country instead of Japan, I wonder where we would have been at this point. We cannot afford this lost because we’re a poor nation. We just don’t have the resources for this catastrophe. Last night while the rest of the Philippines was waiting for the coming of the expected tsunami in our coastlines, my imagination ran wild. I thought of horrible scenes that only happen in movies. It can’t be helped because what’s happening these days has been shown in sci-fi films before. It’s like these films know exactly what this world is destined or doomed for. I know the thought is plain crazy but it’s true because it’s happening now.

Dinner-less Tuesday

I was supposed to not have dinner last Tuesday but I ended up having a delicious plate of Tuscan Chicken meal (P199) from Figaro-Robinson’s Ermita Branch. It had a small serving of pasta in red sauce, chicken fillets with herbs and spices and some salad. It was light and flavorful and I loved it. I didn’t touch the iced tea that came with it, though, because I was limiting my caffeine intake. I was with Edwin and he gladly drank it instead.

So, why dinner-less Tuesday still? Well, I actually want to try doing it for a month. Like how I wanted to have a meatless day, a no-sweets day and a no-caffeine day before. This is my way of disciplining myself when it comes to food. I am a voracious eater, you know. Pigging out used to be my pastime until I learned to value my health. Now I watch what I eat and strive to balance the variety of food I consume.

An Eventful Week

Last week was loaded with happenings. It all started at the restaurant where I work part-time where we had big groups from Monday to Friday. I had to pass up on the Friday party, though, because that was the date I reserved a table for three at Sofitel’s Spiral for the boyfriend, his sister A and yours truly.

Though I’m quite familiar with the buffet setting in restaurants, it was my first time to have a Spiral buffet dinner. Oh boy was it overwhelming! I haven’t seen so much food in one place.

Canon Ixus 105: To Get or Not To Get

When I heard about Canon’s price drop for the entire month of February, I jumped at the idea of getting my first ever digicam. Why not if it was a Canon Ixus 105 and costed almost ten grand only? The original price was P12,950. I mean, it’s Canon. The brand speaks for itself. It would surely be a great buy.

I tried contacting Canon DZone at Mall of Asia last month but the sales personnel there informed me they didn’t have the unit I wanted on stock. I then ask to have one reserved under my name, to which they gamely obliged. When I called up again last week, they still didn’t have the unit. That was the time I accepted the fact I couldn’t have it at a discounted price.
