Waiting Game

I have a love-hate relationship with waiting. It must be because no matter how excited I could get with the idea of waiting, I find the time spent during the wait filled with doubts and what if’s. It takes a lot of drive to remain positive about something. More often than not, the part of us that feeds on negativity takes over and our way of thinking would start to shift from being stable to worrisome.

Have you experienced doubting yourself and your capabilities during the waiting time? Like when you have just taken a test and will have to wait for the results, do you overreact or just keep silent? Do you become more nervous and anxious as the days go by? Or do you get yourself preoccupied with other things and forget about your worries temporarily? I do both.

The Gift of Good Health

I’ve always believed that good health is a gift. I would prefer good health than money any day. Of course, we do need money to live a good life but then, a good life is worthless if it comes with a terrible sickness that could ruin it any time.

I just found out last week that an officemate’s spouse has been diagnosed with kidney failure and would need to undergo dialysis twice a week. What a nightmare that came very early! The patient is only 41, for goodness’ sake.

The Popular Donut Bun Hair Style

I’m still thinking if I’ll get a hair cut or not. My hair has gone so long in the last few months and I’m getting tired of managing it. On normal days, you will see my hair tied in a pony tail. Whether it’s at work or home, my hair is just like that. I’m really unimaginable when it comes to hair styles so I usually go for short hair, if I can help it.

I’ve known about donut bun hair style from a fashion blog I occasionally read. I like how neat and elegant it looks, but it sounds like so much hard work so I didn’t think of doing it to my hair. But when I saw my superfriend Nice wearing a donut bun, I couldn’t help but ask her where she bought it. She then pointed me to an accessory shop (Broadway Gems) that sells it, and in various sizes at that. So one random day at the mall, I went to that shop and got a large donut bun for myself at P59.75.

Bargain Finds from Uniwide Coastal Mall

I once heard Uniwide Coastal Mall is closing shop, but it seems it’s just a rumor because it remains operational up to this day. Anyway, the hubby and I finally got the chance to go there last Monday afternoon and we were lucky to find some really nice items for our home.

I don’t remember the exact price of each item anymore but it goes anywhere from P25 to P79. Nothing above P100, promise. Super cheap, right? My most favorite items from the batch are the decorative letter E and the girl in white figurine. Here’s how I arranged them in our tiny living room along with the decorative plate of a snowman that shouts happily of Christmas:

Birthday Weekend

The hubby and I celebrated my birthday last Saturday simply and quietly. I was expecting for a surprise from him but he didn’t have any. Haha. He failed me this time, but it’s no big deal. He just told me to get something for myself when we went to the mall on my exact birthday and paid for it. So, what did I buy? No, I didn’t get the military challenge coin online I saw last month that would have started my dream coin collection. Instead, I got two things: the dress and the pair of shoes I had been eyeing for weeks. Yes, I finally have them now. Good things really happen to those who wait.

If it was a red velvet cake for the hubby for his birthday, this time I made myself a no-bake blueberry cheesecake. I got the recipe from a friend’s blog and the cake turned out to be good, but not good enough for me. The crust broke when I sliced it (I overdid the sugar) and the cake itself wasn’t as smooth as I’d liked it to be. (Yes, I think I really need to get an electric mixer soon.) The taste was fantastic, though. The canned blueberry filling I bought from the supermarket wasn’t too sweet which I thought was a good thing as it balanced out the flavors of the cake.

Fun October

October is my most favorite month of the year. That’s a biased admission, though, because I was born in that month. My husband was born in that month, too. And so were three other family members: my grandfather (he’s in heaven), my dad and my sister.

Given that, it’s only proper that October is the most celebrated month for us. But since resources are scarce nowadays, we opted to celebrate our birthdays simply but meaningfully. We started off with the husband’s birthday last Saturday. We celebrated it in our home in Bacoor, just the two of us. On the night of his birthday, we had dinner at his fave resto (that’s the good ‘ol Shakey’s) and when we got home, we had his birthday cake for desserts. That cake was special because I baked it. It was a red velvet cake which was surprisingly very good. (Another jackpot recipe from my fave cooking blog!) The birthday boy was happy.
