Gestational Diabetes

When I got pregnant, I had very little knowledge about the risks and dangers of pregnancy. All I knew was that I was going to be okay as long as I took my vitamins and visited my OB. But it seems there is more to pregnancy than meets the eye. Every week, new developments happen to the baby and new physical and psychological changes are experienced by the mother.

One of my fears in this pregnancy is getting gestational diabetes. Basically, this is diabetes acquired by non-diabetic pregnant woman only during her pregnancy, especially during the third trimester when a dramatic weight gain is inevitable. On my last pre-natal check-up, I was advised by my OB to take a sort of glucose test to find out if I have gestational diabetes. It was not that she thought I had it, it was more of a precautionary measure.

Five Months

I’m five months pregnant and life can’t be more exciting for me. Our baby has been more active than ever, making stronger kicks and flutters every now and then. Feeling these movements from our little one never fails to make our day. I don’t even mind getting disturbed from my precious slumber by the baby in the middle of the night, which has been the case lately.

The only pregnancy symptom I’m having these days is heartburn. I manage it by eating small meals or when it has already struck, I would sit up straight to elongate the lining on my esophagus or just let the pain go away on its own (usually takes a few minutes).

Prenatal Visit

Last Saturday, I went to UST Hospital to visit my Ob-Gyne along with my hubby and my SIL. It was time for my second prenatal check-up. I was worried as usual but it turned out everything was okay with the baby. We just listened to its heartbeat and I got new vitamin prescription and that was it.

We asked the doctor’s opinion as to when the best time would be to get a scan to find out the gender of our baby. She recommended getting one when I’m at 24 weeks already, that would be at least two months from now. We’re very excited to know if we’re having a boy or a girl. If my instincts are right, we’re having a boy. Oh, I wish! I wish!

Ideal Weight Gain for Pregnant Women

Pregnancy means a lot of things to different women. If there’s one thing I so look forward to about my pregnancy, it’s eating a lot and gaining weight. Haha. Seriously, gaining weight is a must during pregnancy. The baby has to get as much nutrition as it can from the mother.

My pre-pregnancy weight was 130 lbs. This morning, I hit the scales and found out I gained 4 lbs. Cool, huh! It means I’m gaining weight and it’s good for the baby. I know I need to gain more as my pregnancy progresses, but I don’t wanna gain more than what’s needed. So, I researched a bit and found some information on the recommended weight gain a pregnant woman should have:

2nd Month

Yesterday was quite special. It was our 2nd month as a married couple and we have so much to be thankful for. Top on the list is the fact that we are expecting a baby. Today, I’m exactly on my 12 weeks of pregnancy and we’re very glad that everything is doing just fine.

It’s too early to say but I think the hubby and I have been adjusting really well with our new life together. Traveling to and from Bacoor home four times a week is no easy feat. Yes, we still sleep over at my in-laws’ place (to save on gas) whenever we have something important to do late at night. Haha.

Pregnant and Confirmed!

After two home pregnancy tests (April 15th and 22nd) and a check-up with the Ob-Gyne (last Saturday), we’re now 100% sure that I’m pregnant. We’re overjoyed! We can’t thank God enough. This is such a huge blessing that the hubby and I will be eternally grateful for.

I’m happy that everything is fine with our baby. We heard the heart beat for the first time and the experience was priceless and out of this world. Yipeeee! We’re very excited about this development and we can’t wait for our baby to be born. I’m okay with whatever the gender is, but one of the grandmas seriously wants a girl she’s even started looking for baby girl clothes and kids bedding sets for girls. Haha.
