My New Blackberry Curve 9220 from Globe!

After a failed delivery on August 17, I finally got hold of my free phone from Globe’s loyalty program yesterday. It was a brand new Blackberry Curve 9220 valued at P9,900. Remember this post? I changed my mind at the last minute. Instead of the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, I requested for this phone. And it was the best decision, ever.

I don’t plan to use the phone, though. I’m actually selling it to my sister N at a meager price. She said she wanted a BB phone before and when I brought up the matter to her the last time we talked over the phone, she was more than willing to buy my BB phone. Cool.

A Not So Happy Long Weekend

I guess a lot of Filipinos can relate to this. The long weekend that passed wasn’t as happy as we thought it would be. It started last Saturday when we first heard the news about a plane that crashed at sea, a few hundreds of meters away from the Masbate airport. The plane crash resulted to the killing of three out of its four passengers, primary of them was DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo.

What made this tragedy compelling to follow (from the announcement of the news and the search and rescue operations to the retrieval of the victims’ remains and the necrological services) was the fact that the said cabinet member was seen by the majority of Filipinos as a great public servant. Up to this day, the nation is mourning his loss. I don’t know Sec. Robredo on a personal basis but I am one with the Filipino people in recognizing his significant contributions to good governance in our country.

How to Donate Cash to the Red Cross

Yesterday morning, the sun already showed up at my side of Manila. I couldn’t help but let out a big sigh of relief when I saw it myself. I dunno but the mere sight of the rising sun felt like the “spring of hope” to me, if you know what I mean.

I know at this moment, a lot of Filipinos are trying hard to rebuild their (homes and) lives and move forward after the terrible August 7 flooding. Help is still very much encouraged. In fact, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), along with many other charitable organizations, is still accepting donations in cash and in kind. Here’s how we can donate cash donations to the Red Cross through our mobile phones (saw this in my Facebook timeline last night):

And Our Baby’s Gender is…

boy! Goodness gracious, my instincts were right! We’re having a boy and we saw the “proof” during our scan last Saturday morning at UST Hospital. The hubby was ecstatic because he, too, wanted a boy for our first baby. Wish granted.

What makes me happier is that the baby’s healthy, heartbeat, measurements and all. During the scan, he was in a breech position but the OB-sonologist assured us that he’s still gonna assume his final head-down position soon. We’re seriously praying for that because we want a normal delivery.

Independence Day 2012

It’s a legal holiday in Manila today and everybody’s supposed to be on holiday mode. Unfortunately, I can’t join the crowd. I have work today. No complaints, though, as I love my job.

This year, we celebrate the 114th Anniversary of Philippine Independence. That is, if we start counting at 1898 when Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo first waved the Philippine flag at his residence in Kawit, Cavite (now considered a historical site). If we start counting on July 4, 1946, the momentous date when the Philippine-American Friendship Day was formalized, then it should be less at 66th.

Pacquiao Loses to Bradley

In the much-awaited boxing match this morning (Manila time) between our very own Manny Pacquiao and U.S.A.’s Timothy Bradley, the latter won by split decision. While I respect the judges’ decision, I still believe Pacquiao won the fight. And I think a lot of people feel the same way. Anyway, sports is sports and we all have to accept the final verdict and move on.

On a related note, traffic in Manila this afternoon was very light. Even gasoline stations are empty with their petroleum hoses (which look a lot like those Delafield petroleum hoses I see on TV) rendered immobile by the absence of customers. Look what a Pacquiao boxing fight can do to a city! I think we reached my in-laws’ place in just 40 minutes. Normally, our travel time is 1 hour. What a relief! Now I have more time to do household chores and some work-related stuff.
